Synths used by NEW MUSIK?

I almost swore to myself I would not post another "who used what?" thread but I realized I have never heard anything about NEW MUSIK's setup and they have probably some of the best synth sounds on there records of anyone to date. They even got Tomita in check with some vocal style sounds. Soooo anyone know what I want to know?

Instruments used by New Musik -

Korg 700s, Oberheim OBX-a, Roland VP-330, Roland CR-78, Roland CSQ-600, Logan String Melody, Prophet-5, Yamaha CS-80, Simmons SDS-V, Eventide Harmoniser, Piano, Effects. Plus the usual Guitars, Bass & Drums.

Tony Mansfield had also purchased a Fairlight CMI in early '82.

Well that is a very qaulity and capable line up of synths and that would explain there ability to create such sounds. The CS and OB definitly have the complex modulation routings needed for some of there stuff. Both nice and rich in sound and cover their use of polyphony stuff. I'm not excluding the P5, I just dont see it as being as capable. My freind made a patch on his P600 that sounds super New Musik like tho, using the PolyMod section. Sweet. Thanks.

Yeah, Tony Mansfield/New Musik were great

About half or so of the synth-work on "From A To B" was in fact done with a Korg 700S only, eg the songs On Islands, Sad Films, Missing Persons, She's a Magazine and Love Train. Any polyphonic stuff heard on these songs was done by multi-tracking the 700S.

The remaining songs on that album were recorded later than the above ones and feature in addition a Prophet 5 as well as some Yamaha CS-80. It seems to me the P5 was the most used synth on these songs, not the CS-80.

The OB-Xa mentioned above by Syn303 debuted on their third album "Warp" (1982).

Btw, Syn...where have you heard they used a Logan stringer?

ah - yeah i never see anyone mention new musik and i always wondered what they use - does anyone know what kind of vocoder they used? in "churches" theres some pretty interesting stuff happening towards the end of the song... like a formant lock or something? anyone know what i mean?

Mansfield produced, played some keyboards, and contributed backing vocals to Yukihiro Takahashi's 1981 solo album Neuromantic. It also features Takahashi's YMO cohorts Sakamoto, Hosono, and programmer Hideki Matsutake, as well as sometime YMO guitarist Kenji Omura and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera and Andy McKay.

"Churches" is on New Musik's second album Anywhere (rec. in late 1980) so I reckon it's the Roland VP-330.

Does anybody know what synth is used during the song "A Train On Twisted Tracks" from Warp? There is this cool undulating synth sound going on throughout the song, and I have always wondered what it was.
