Korg electribe recall?

Post by XeemEyexoX » Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:53 pm

anyone heard about it? i was in guitar center the other day and the dude there told me korg is pulling all the EMX/ESX shelf units because the tubes keep going defunct. The word on the streets from this dude, whom i don't necessarily consider a trusted source (hence i post this to get some more verification or not), is that korg is pulling the units because they have to make some "changes". is a mkII in effect? with current memory format? and other dope happenings!!!!

Sounds kind of strange...but they are certainly due. An updated version of each machine would be appealing to me.

i've had both of my X tribes since they were released and neither has ever had any issues with the tubes. i've read on the Yahoo groups once or twice about failings, but they're certainly rare.

as for a MKII, i'm all for it, but i'll believe it when i see it. until then, i'm not holding out any hope.

tubes on my ESX has worked just fine for the 3 years I've owned it (but I don't really use them anyway, it's fixed at ca 25% up.), and I've never heard of anyone who have experienced that their tubes have gone bad.

anyway, I agree that the electibes have huge slaes potential, and a new version will be welcomed with open arms here :)

please Korg, make some new tribes, and for the love of god let them have CF-slots for storage and more sequencer-resolution. :)

Well, they seem to be in stock in most places, so I think this is BS. I think if Korg was going to update them, they would have done it the last two years. I think we can hope more for a cross between these machines and the Kaossilator. That seems like the most logical step.

i think maybe the point was that newly manufactured ones are being recalled, rather than every electribe X ever made....perhaps some problem came about in recently made ones due to a change in the production or differnt parts used.

that would be believable, and would mean basically nothing in terms of an electribe update.

On the other hand, if this source was from guitar center, there's probably no such recall at all, cos guitar center employees are. . well. . 'special'

true, true. GC folk have been disappointing before...

My thoughts on the viability of this "recall" and "updating" were personally reinforced by the possible fact that maybe(correct me if i'm wrong) it's taken so long because their contract with Smart Media is finally up, and now they can provide a full-fledged hardware update and stuff.

but i too agree, that it's possible the GC dude could have easily just been full of s**t. I guess more research is on call

and hot damn! an onboard Kpad would be the balls!!!

I've had my tribe SX for almost 2 years and I've had no problems with the tubes.

Now excuse me I need to go knock on some wood, before my electribe starts strangely acting up.

if they did a recall for anything it would be the 'knob jitter' problem...

I guess no one has done the obvious and checked out Korg's website to see if there's been any mention of a recall.
