Quik-Lok QL-699 Three-Tier "H" Stand Question

Post by Johnny Lenin » Mon Mar 10, 2008 3:46 pm

If you have one of these, could you measure the depth of the lower tier? I'm wondering if I could fit my Vox on the lower tier.

The upper two tiers are adjustable, i.e. not fixed height. How big is your vox?

It's not the height so much as the fore-aft depth. The Vox is 21.5" from front to back.

i'll measure tonight if someone doesn't jump on this one- i'm not sure if the bottom tier can have the keyboard supports flipped like the upper tiers which allows for waaay too deep synths like the OB-8 to be supported without the end pieces getting in the way. otherwise the bottom tier won't be able to hold something much deeper than the Poly Evolver as pictured.

Thanks. I like the QuikLok design, but I think the Standtastic 3-tier stand would also work. Evidently, the arms are adjustable up to 22":

The Standtastics are some of the strongest and most stable stands on the market. One of my friends uses them in his studio, which is filled with large, heavy vintage synths. And, if necessary, extra tiers can be easily added, thereby allowing five and six tiered configurations.

Thanks for the input WDW. My plan is to stack a synth on the big flat top of the organ, and put the others on tiers -- four boards in all -- but having the option of adding a tier is very attractive.

To reduce strain on the tiers, I would recommend not stacking and, instead, adding the extra tier.

Well... that is an option with the standtastic stand that I wouldn't really have with the QuikLok... and I could make the bottom tier a bit lower [the Vox is pretty thick]. As I think about it, that would be preferable.

On the other hand, the Jaguar is pretty light as combos go -- about 30 lbs without the lid -- and if I stacked the AX60, the total weight one one tier would be pushing it for the QuikLok, but well within spec for the Standtastic.

Something to think about.

I don't know about heat build-up for those, but separate tiers helps with cooling too.

The Standtastics (and that model of Quik Lok) allow for keeping the tiers close enough that one does not have to place synths too low or too high.

the 699 does have extra tiers & shelves of several different sizes you can order. i just got a fourth tier that is actually a small flat shelf for holding the Kenton Pro-2000, BHPHoto has them as a special order.

I just measured the three tiers on my QL-699:
  • * Bottom tier has just under 15 inches of clearance, back to front;
    * Middle tier has about 13 3/4 inches of clearance;
    * Top tier has 12 inches of clearance - arm length is the same as the middle tier, but the adjustment knob is on the front and that takes away the additional space.
It's a nice stand - really useful to have flexibility in setting the height of each tier! I got a boom-mic attachment as well.

Well, that (short depth) knocks the Quik Lok out of the running.

I forgot to mention that the Standtastic arms do not have any rubber or silicone padding on them. I'd recommend picking up some silicone feet/pads to place on the tops of the arms to prevent the keyboards from sliding and to protect the finish on the arms and keyboards.

I've got a JD800 on the bottom tier of my 699. I had to turn the retainers at the end of the arms downward -- the synth sticks out past the ends of the arms by about an inch. Fortunately, the rubber collars on the arms do a good job of gripping the bottom of the synth and preventing it from going anywhere.

The only complaint I have about my 699 is that some of the welding is a bit dodgy. For studio use it's fine.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!

Yep... looks like I'm going with the Standtastic, then. I notice that they come with a carry bag, which would definitely come in handy when I get the band out gigging this spring. Thanks for everyone's help.
