Machinedrum? Need help from Elektron-hedz!

Post by Z » Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:02 am

I recently purchased a Specktralis, but the menu diving is overwhelming. I am considering a Machinedrum, but would like to know how much menu diving is required and what is the difference between the different versions. I do know that the UW allows you to add your own samples, but can any of you Elektron-hedz break down the different MD's for me?

EDIT: I'm not much into sampling, so I don't have to have the UW. I just want to know what all the different versions are so I can make an educated purchase.

Thanks,
Z

Menu diving is not what I think of when I think of using the MD.

Yeah, there are menus, but it is sooooo well designed that you are not even aware of them while you are programming.

Elektron MD = goodness....

The only thing is that you may give up the melodic element of the Spectralis.
But then again you can get and SPS-1 and a Monomachine for about the same price as a Spetralis.

UW seems to be the choice to make according to the forum opinions...

Hyphen, thanks for the input.

I've got plenty of synths, so I don't think I'll miss that on the Specki. I won't be able to get back as much as I paid for the Specki, but I could have got a MD & MonoMachine instead. If I sell the Specki, I can only afford the MD, but would have a little bit left over towards another synth.

I understand there is a MD MkII. I was just wondering what the differences are between the original and the MkII.

what MD are you going to go for, the normal MD or the UW version?

original MD = 32 steps per pattern / mkII = 64 steps per pattern

UW original = 32 steps per pattern and 32 ROM sample slots + 2 RAM slots / UW mkII = 64 steps per pattern and 48 ROM sample slots + 4 RAM slots.

OS updates from Elektron allow the MD's to have added CTR Machines.

Thanks Sysn303 - that's exactly the info I was looking for. So the main differnce between the origianl and mkII is the pattern lenth and RAM/ROM sample slots.

What are CTR Machines? I cannot find that info on Elektron's website.

;)
freshly created, check it out, hehe

anyways, there's no menu diving (for parameters) only for settings (like two windows)
the only diving (for editing sounds) is between the (Synth) Paramters, Filter+EQ+more and then the "Mixer" section..
it's so fast you won't even notice it ;)
