Detuned synth in Mortal Kombat theme? (Techno Syndrome)

I was hoping somebody might know what synth was used by the immortals for this sound?

My Jp-8000 came pretty close but that was made 5 years after that song was released.

Are you talking about the main lead? That sounds like a sampler to me - a filtered orchestral hit.

As far as the synth stuff, I don't know for sure, but I wager a lot of Roland did the analog synth bits. There's something about the filter sound. Praga Khan had a LOT of kit from Lords of Acid, so it's hard to say.

But you could do most of the synth stuff with any standard analog subtractive or virtual analog. None of the sounds require extensive modulation, or even uncommon features.

Not the main lead, but the buzzy, analoggy stacatto synth sound.

Yep I know it's easy to do. 2 slightly detuned sawtooth waves and the right envelopes.

I'm just curious what people could have used to use to get that sound back in the early/mid 90's. I hear it all the time in house/eurodance songs from that era.

I think it might be Roland, too. Maybe a JX something?

that song is a guilty pleasure of mine. to this day i still think it sounds cool. i mean, you got the OG Mortal Kombat and Praga Khan? two great tastes that taste great together... uh... well, nevermind.

I have also wondered what was used to to that sound.
That synth riff is badass I can play that part on the keyboard.
I usually play in on a SH101 or Juno 106 with some reverb.

I have no idea about what gear was used, but did anyone else notice how many people ripped off the terrible "duh duh duh duh... mortal kombat!" sound when this came out? It was like some kind of synth-cliche-virus and spread throughout subpar pop-techno. There was a metal band around here that got some radioplay that copied the line VERBATIM... it was atrocious.

I know what you're talking about. I even heard that in an episode of spongebob squarepants a long time ago.

Is this thread regarding the beginning stacatto synth line (which is the first synth sound heard at the beginning of the song)? I'd say it's Alpha Juno too.

I'm wondering what synth the Stabs are from (the main chorus).
