Wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a Synth for some nice classic Deep House/Atmospheric Drum and Bass Pads - Hard or Soft????

its possible to programme ambient pad sounds with almost any poly synth, along with good effects processing - flange, phase, reverb, delay....

its never a good idea to think ''this machine is for making this type of music''. because even if you do find a sound close to what your looking for, youre always going to have to tweak it at least little to make it suit your song.

the best way to start i think is to learn the basics of synthesis (maybe you already have!) and sound minipulation, and learn a bit about effects.
then you can take a preset sound close to what you want, and use it as a starting point to creating something thats yours.

i learned on a microkorg, the interface isnt the best but its an unbelievable little synth for the money. and Spectrasonics' Atmosphere (soon to be replaced by omnisphere) is a great source of ambient pad sounds.

Exactly. It's also never a good idea to think that "the sound will magically come out of a single machine".

true many synths can be put to do ambient pads, esp if u got nice outboard. still, some are still better at it than others, from the get go.

i feel you cant go wrong getting some kind of a virus. Virus C for example - it does this type of thing well, and the FX section w delay/reverb combos is very well suited for this style.

ive heard good stuff in this vein on Q and Radius too.


on the analog side of things, best house comping pad ive heard was on a OB-8.

Nice, cheers for the heads up on the Virus. I'm not looking to bite, and have the soft Arturia version of the Moog Modular and ARP 2600, however I feel these are better for bass and leads. Just wanted to be pointed in the right direction as I'm sure there are some syths which are going to do pads better than others.
