Some more synth-spotting in videos...

Post by Synthaholic » Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:25 pm

I was watching some Genesis concert videos from '87. I figured out all the keyboards but one:

I see an ARP Quadra, Prophet 10, Emulator II, Synclavier II and a Yamaha CP70 piano. I haven't gotten a positive visual ID on the synth beneath the Synclavier, but in doing some reading Tony Banks also had a DX7 in his setup then. Is that what it is?

In this video of the song The Brazilian:

it looks like Tony is playing the lead part on the DX7. It's a pretty fat analog sound, did he coax that sound out of the DX or is he using it to control other synths? According to Wikipedia he had a TX816 and MKS-80 in his setup as well.

I have this concert on DVD, it's Live at Wembley Stadium. This was the last concert Phil had long hair.
I always smile at the half-full plastic cup of beer Tony has sitting off to the side. Maybe it's for the Drum duet when he can take a break.

I should've known they'd play that composition live. I purchased "Te Brazilian" as an mp3 even before I bought my own copy of the Invisible Touch CD. I'm glad this performance was taped and made available. Thanks for telling us about it, Synthaholic.
The greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive.

Rest in peace, Dr. Robert Moog.
