Vermona perfourmer - do I need the CV/gate version?
Hi all,
I'm buying my first synths pretty shortly and after a lot of reading (a lot of it here on this forum - thanks!), I've decided on buying a Vermona Perfourmer and a Doepfer a100 system. What I'm not sure about is whether I need to get the perfourmer with the CV/gate option or not? Its a bit more expensive, but I don't know if its really a neccesity for me.... Whats your advice, can I get away with the cheaper version of the perfourmer and still get the most out of it in conjunction with the a100?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but as I said these will be my first synths, I'm a total noob....
Thanks for your help!

I don't think it's completely necessary but since your getting an A-100 with lots of patching options at your disposal, the CV/Gate option will open more sonic possibilities by allowing you to trigger the Perfourmer with various modules offered in the Eurorack format. So, Yes! I would upgrade.
What modules are you getting for the A-100?
No stupid questions here, some of us are just less informed than others. But as I've seen many, many, many, many, many times before, people will kind of jump on ya for not using the 'ole "Search" option.

Thanks guys.
The modules I'm getting with the a100 are just the pre-built suggested system:
2x Standard VCO A-110
*2x ADSR A-140
2 x LFO A-145
1x Ring Modulator A-114
1 x Audio Divider A-115
1 x VC Waveform Processor A-116
1 x Noise/Random A-118
1 x VCF1 A-120 (24dB low pass 1)
1 x VCF2 A-121 (12dB multimode filter)
1 x linear VCA A-130
1 x logarithmic VCA A-131
1 x linear Mixer A-138a
1 x logarithmic Mixer A-138b
1 x Dual S&H A-148
1 x Trigger Divider A-160
1 x Trigger Sequencer A-161
1 x Dual Slew Limiter A-170
1 x Multiple I A-180
1 x MIDI interface A-190
and I'll probably add 1 x A-181 Multiples 2 to that as well. I figured that since I don't have the knowledge or experience to really pick and choose the modules needed for my purposes yet, so I thought I'd just go with a suggested system to start with and once I've got my head around it I'll decide which modules I can live without and what I could live without.
The type of music I'm making is basically long evolving drones, so I wasn't even sure if the MIDI interface would be that useful for me. I though maybe I should just use the perfourmer and the a100 as two discrete units? Can anyone give me some examples of what I could achieve using the the two together with the CV option?
Thanks for all your help, am really appreciating it.

Re: Vermona perfourmer - do I need the CV/gate version?
wanted to start a new thread about the cv / gate on the vermona perfourmer, but found this and thought i could post my question here:
do i understand this right, u have to explicitly order the cv / gate option when buying the perfourmer?
and, where would those jacks for the cv / gate inputs be?
my problem is, i could buy one second hand and would like to know whether it has the option or not. the guy that's selling it doesnt know...
any help is really appreciated!
cheers

The eight jacks are on the rear panel. Notice the label above them on the far left. Models without them have the holes plugged up.

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

back during my first time around with the perfourmer, wooden side ends were an 'extra', available for purchase. when i bought my current color knob CV unit new, the wooden side ends were already on.

BTW, I envy you. My first synth was an Ensoniq SQ1 plus, and a Roland MC 505 groovebox

Re: Vermona perfourmer - do I need the CV/gate version?
i think the decision on adding the cv/gate or not should also be influenced with what kind of sequencing system will you be using, if any. beside midi, if you plan on getting anything capable of step sequencing cv/gate, like a mobious or a doepfer maq etc, you'll need it.
also, considering the Perfourmer's onboard modulation arhitecture is rather simple compared to bigger, more complex systems, the ability to reach CV of each of the oscillators pitch, from external modulation source, will expand it to a world of posibilities - you can FM the oscillators with A100 VCOs, or additional envelopes, LFOs, Noise/Chaos generators etc.. lotta crazy sounds are possible this way.
all in all, if its not easily installable on a later date, i'd buy the Perfourmer with the CV/GATE expansion, right away. even if it means squeezing out more pennies, in the long run it'll pay off.
my 0.02 euro
oh, and welcome to the forum.
PS does anyone know if its possible to mod the P4MR to accept filter CV.. ? that be a killer mod..

yeah, i also would like the cv / gate version, and as i intend to buy it second hand, i needed to know where the jacks are (cause the seller has no idea whether it has it or not - but i guess that's a sign that it hasnt got it...). filter cv would be awesome!

pflosi,
The Perfourmer CV is for the VCO only.

yeah i know, i was referring to clusterchord who asked about a mod...
anyway guys, thanks for the responses. i will now figure out whether the one i intend to buy has the cv / gate option or not and then decide if i buy it
cheers
