"I found it in THE TRASH!"
So reading these various sites about the DK Synergy I came across something I hear pretty often. this guy was walking his dog when he came across one in the trash (complete with the Kaypro II computer). I have a friend that found a working Moog Source in a heap on the sidewalk back in the 90's (apparently with all of the prior inhabitants other belongings) and just recently another friend of mine scored a Kurzweil MIDI controller.
I've found a few table hooters, but nothing as awe inspiring as a Source or Synergy. So how about you guys? Ever find, or have a friend who found something amazing in the trash?

No, it wasn't a gem, but I say a guy throwing out a Casio CZ-230S.
It was actually standing up in the trash bin at the curb in front of his house.
As I picked it up to check it out, he came up and said "oh that, yes...$10.00" I was going to argue about it already being thrown out, but whatever. Turns out it has some quaint sounds in it. I mostly ran it through a Kaoss Pad to jazz it up.

The closest I've got is that one of my friends moved into a house that had a ton of s**t left behind from two seperate previous inhabitants. The shed was full of old radio repair equipment and the attic was full of baby clothes and drug paraphernalia.
In the attic we found a washburn guitar that looked like it had been burried for part of it's life, and one of the old DOD grunge pedals.
In the shed we found a commodore 64 with box, games, lots of books/magazines, disk drive, tape drive, and some paddles.
I've also pulled my share of sound toys out of the trash/dumpsters, but no keyboards or anything.

Working at a music store I was moving trash from the loading dock to the dumpster and noticed that a MOTU 2408 MKII box felt kind of heavy. I was curious as we had Pro Tools set up in the studio. Popped it open and had myself a brand new interface.
Yeah, so I guess technically it was stealing and not finding, but it was outside.

last week i was walking down my block and saw a huge pile by the curb, obviously from someone moving out. people through out some perfectly good furniture here in nyc so i walked over to inspect and saw part of a keyboard poking through the pile. move a few things around and--voila--a suitcase rhodes!
it works 100%, just needs some cleaning (some keys sticky) and a little tuning. i've wanted one of these since 7th grade and i am STOKED!

I found a battered mid-seventies Crumar organ in the trash. It was hopeless and couldn't get any sound out of it but I gave all the electronic content to a friend who repairs synths. He has told me it's been a great source of many discontinued components.

Well, h**l, if we're stepping out of electronics, back in '91 I found The Residents Commercial Record and the soundtrack to EL TOPO on sweeeet lusty vinyl in the trash next to my friends house. I later met the guy that threw them out - he was a lawyer / record reviewer / collector nerd who rented the bottom apartment TO HOLD HIS RECORD COLLECTION. It was AMAZING, this guy had EVERYTHING. He had four copies of The Residents record and the El Topo had water damage, hence my score.

i already told this little story somewhere here... 10 years ago when me and my family were moving to another house, there was a heap of our own garbage in front of our door, and among those very familiar old shoes and shite, i found emthree 'computer echo' - tape delay!?! no idea how it got there. repaired it and now i use it, mostly for overdriving synths.
