Red and Blue SH-101

Post by gilwe » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:44 pm

How many red and blue SH101 were made, as opposed to the "standard" gray ones ?

I got a blue and a gray SH101 and will sell one.

I thought about keeping the gray because it has its matching modulation arm, but thinking about this,
the value of the blue one can rise up in the near future due to being rare...

What do you think ?

The red and blue versions tend to get a little more at auction. However the keytar attachments are valuable in and of themselves. To get the max amount of mney you could sell the blue one and the grey attachment seperately.

The gray looks nice with the arm, but somehow I have the feeling that both the red and blue 101's will become sought-after collectible analogs in a few years (any idea how many were made of each ?)

I've been offered 900$ for any of them...

I have a red with mod grip that I'm re-capping and planning on doing all the mods too (LFO rate, audio input, etc). I bet that will be worth something when I'm done...

They have already shot up a lot in price - especially considering what they are. I doubt you'll see a big jump in price on them in the near future. I would guess you'll just see a steady climb along with the rest of vintage synths. According to a recent VSE thread there were actually a lot of SH-101's produced, which means they aren't particularly rare. They are cute, plastic and battery operated which seems to work in their favor. Heavily modded units fetch a lot.

hmmm...

Maybe I'll just sell the gray and keep the arm. I can always get another "plain" gray one to match the arm if I want ;)

The blue one worths getting modded I guess...

Astounding. Absolutely astounding.
When I was looking for a small synth to take to England, SH101s, the most plentiful (historically) analog synth on eBay, were still only pulling about $500... and that was less than two years ago.

These guys seem to have done very well. I've seen them go for around $600 recently. Of course their are the NOVA-MOD ones that go for $900+

I was offered $850 for my old red one which was not nova modded.. They are definitely on the rise, quick. Ended up trading that one for a Jupiter 6.

Psh, and to think people gave me s**t for paying what I did for the CS-15, which just absolutely blows the SH away in sound and functionality.
But not genre.

Value is relative. Did you pay what it was worth to you? If so then who cares what others think. Although that being said, you did pay quite a bit for it...

;)

I wasn't slamming you AG... And I traded it, didn't end up selling it for the $850. Although it was a fairly common price for the red SH-101. I've seen them go for way more even.
