Does anyone know the vocoder used to do Soundwaves voice?
Just curious if anyone happened to know what vocoder was used to make Soundwaves in the original Transformers.
I was just watching a couple of old episodes, and searched online everywhere, but couldn't find anything.

Think you could make a decent approximation of it using a simple square wave carrier - possibly filtered - to take a little edge off whilst mixing in some white noise for some added breath. Soundwave's vocoded voice certainly sounds quite hollow and breathy.
In fact after listening to it again I suspect playing 5ths or adding a second oscillator tuned 7 semitones up from the first would get you even closer.

In fact after listening to it over and over it sounds like the interval isn't a 5th. I think there's three notes being played although it certainly sounds quite discordant.

Maybe there is some ringmodulation going on carrier?OriginalJambo wrote:In fact after listening to it over and over it sounds like the interval isn't a 5th. I think there's three notes being played although it certainly sounds quite discordant.

TRUE...it is a Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus...but Idk if it's the MkI or the MkII. Back in 2000 I saw and read the Sunbow (sp?) (now gone...acquired by Sony) webpage gear/equipment list (no longer on the net) clearly listing a Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus. Either it didn't specify the version, or I don't remember.jupiter8 wrote:Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus

It can be done on an MS2000. I've done it so I also suspect that it can be done on a Radias as well. I don't remember how as I don't have an MS2000 any more but my little cousins loved it. 8)

What are you guys going on about? Vocoder? That's just Soundwave's natural voice.
Nice to see he has made a couple of new ones. Well new since the last time I saw his videos.
His video's are awesome. "Damn, why they wanna stick me for my paper?"space6oy wrote:HA!
