Alphanumeric 16x2 LCD's don't cost much more than $10, and this is the average person's price. Considering DSI as a business probably sourced them for half that, I can't really see it affecting the overall price too much.

You'd also need some control and interface stuff, not to mention additional coding, to go with the display, so it's a bit more than that.

I'm sure if they were designing it again now they'd put in the LCD display, but modifying the desktop Evo to put one in would require redesigning the PCBs, case and code. That amount of work would be about as much as they put in to design the MoPho, but they wouldn't end up with a new product for their lineup, so I can't see them doing it.

I'm sure the Evolver 2 that will have user sample memory* will have an LCD display.

*Actual Evolver 2 may just be an idea in my mind. A well developed idea though.

When Dave found out that that one could sonically stun and kill people he never put it into production. That's the prototype that the Predator stole!

Yeah you brought up 2 things I've been thinking about. My mind is changing on this product. First, not having a headphone out was a major screwup on the evolver IMO. The thing is self contained portability but now I have to find a special y cable to use it with headphones? Not cool. Second, perhaps the evolver is too much synth for its small size and particularly for the interface with its small numeric display. Sometimes less is more, particularly in the tiny portable synth catagory. I get it now and I like it for what it is. If your going to get an evolver you really should get the full MEK or polyevolver to get the most out of the synth - it is deep. If you need a nice little portable synth that isn't too much to wrap your head around than this looks like it will fit the bill nicely.

Does it self destruct in a massive nuclear explosion too? That would be cool. Flattening a venue literally.

I actually like how it looks! :)
Perhaps not as classy as e.g. Moog, but the MoPho definitely has en edge to it that many other synths lack.
(And yellow is nice! *looks fondly at uQ*)

To me the only interesting question is if it has anything that the Evolver can't do. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

+1 =D>

Though whether we'll ever see one in the UK is another matter - currently nowhere that I know of to try out DSI synths. This country seems to be becoming a synth desert.

One thing that struck me reading this thread was "you can pick up a xyz for $xxx 2nd hand instead" This may be fine in the US, but the synths mentioned come up on Ebay once or twice at most here in the UK, so unless you intend to spend your life scouring 2nd hand columns or Ebay, buying 2nd hand isn't necessarily an easy option here. Craigslist is tiny here in the UK, we don't have 'swapmeets'. In some ways if your time is money - are you actually saving anything by buying 2nd hand?

One more thing, someone posted (possibly joking) 'stick it to the man - buy 2nd hand'. I'd hardly characterise any synth maker as 'the man' except for maybe the big 3. If we always wait for 2nd hand synths, there won't be any new ones to buy soon enough...
