Actually the RozzBox does have a built in sequencer. Actually it has 4 per voice = total 20 sequencers.

There you go. Dump the 777. Get Rozzy. Then buy the new FR product. And make sure there is some cake around.

The 777's not going anywhere until there's more Rozz demos out there and/or Jered emerges from the basement.

The sequencing on this thing, I've heard, is no easy task. It's a matter of menu-diving on that tiny screen combined with button-clicks. I've been in contact with the venerable Droolmaster who just snagged a used unit, and even he is mildly challenged by the interface and Germanlish manual.

I'm at my worst financially, so this and the Miami are probably gonna kill me off for a while...

It's not a re-release of the 777, so go ahead and get rid of that idea.
If you want a 777 part 2, look to the XS.

No it's not.
I know a lot of people don't get this philosophy, but though Jared has not ruled out re-visiting the 777 at some point, I know (per him) that he really has no personal interest in doing so. He'd rather do something he hasn't done yet.
That said, he isn't blind to the interest in the 777 post it's production run, and the 777 was considerably in mind during the creation of the XS. It's not a 777 part 2, but it definitely holds A LOT in common with the 777.

He's done the 303 type clones = 777/Revolution

A CV/Gate/Midi Sequencer = Mobius

A Semi-Modular = XS


What's left then to do

An x0x type Drum Machine?

I'm still thinking it's a new sequencer.

The 777 was not/is not a 303 clone. It could do one h**l of a 303 emulation, but it could not nail the 303 perfectly, and it's not being able to do so was part of a conscious decision on Jared's part. Similarly, that decision was made in large part due to the fact that it wasn't meant as simply something that could act as a 303 and Jared felt that staying away from hard 303 emulation would prove to extend it's overall usefulness as a synth.
Again, this is per him, I'm not making this up.
An example of this would be the 777's square, which purposely emits a true square. Jared's take was that a true square would be more useful in FM purposes then the 303s funky shape. (I agree with him on this)
The 777 really was it's own thing.
The 303 played a significant part in it's design concept, but then again, so did the 606 and other (non 303 related) things.
How far off from a 303 is it? Suffice to say that if you set 20 people down in front of a 777 that really didn't know much about subtractive synthesis workings or the 303, recorded all their initial actions on the 777 for an hour, you'd probably end up with an hours worth of stuff that probably only offered seconds worth of things that resembled a TB emulation attempts.


Oddly enough, there was an FR drum machine in mind long prior to the Revolution.
I remember a conversation with Jared some time around 98 or 99....really wasn't that far off from when the 777 had been completed.
He had a drum machine in mind next at the time and was still rolling the concepts of the box around. Whether it would be all analog, dsp based are partially dsp based, etc.

Whatever the case, I'm not saying nor do I mean to even imply that the new product is a drum machine....
for some reason the memory of that conversation just popped back into my mind.
Thought some might find it interesting.
