personally, i don't own a dedicated analog drum machine and i still haven't found one that bowls me over. i'm planning on picking up an Mbase01 sometime soon, but a full blown drum box from FR would be tops.

The thing with this is that you're assuming that FR could make one and sell it for this price. Seeing as how the one voice analogue synth with monophonic sequencer is $750 I'm not sure he could add another 5 or so voices for $450, even if they're just simple drum voices. Also if you wanted patch memory rather than just pattern memory there would be a whole new level of multiplexing/demultiplexing circuitry that would need to be added.

I reckon if FR made a drum machine they could maybe do one X-Base 09 style for $1200 but something that was more complete would end up costing around the same as 888/999 money.

Still would be a nice thing though I reckon.

i hear ya. it's just cloud-talk on my part, but i'm just trying to put things into perspective. makes me wonder what that Miami machine is gonna cost...

The first batch of Miami's will be available in Germany only (20 units max), then

I do think if FR did a drum machine it would most likely NOT have patch storage, and would be something like the XS without a sequencer and that would be much more reasonable to produce and he could focus on making it stomp. Even just a 5-7 channel drum synth that actually sounds good... could be in the $1200

All the current analog drum machines have weak sounds I'm sorry but they just do! jomox, vermona, mfb, etc. you name it all have something missing big time, they don't hit hard. White noise through a filter pffffff pssssss that ain't never gonna make good analog drums! Sure the jomox kick is OK... but all the rest of the sounds have a really cheap and chinsy sound to my ears and I've had them all X2, always disappoint in the end. Same with the elektrons sps-1 (haven't tried a UW)

Only analog drum machines I've heard that really cut air are the 909, 808, 606 end of story. I would blindly drop $1500 on a FR drum machine without patch storage or a sequencer because it would probably sound really really good.

You guys need to just buy an XS already. That thing can make wicked drum sounds. Cooler than any drum machine I've used. Seriously, have you guys not heard the XS drum demos?

You raise a good point. It's ludicrously easy to generate great drum sounds with an XS (and this is something I rarely do - it's a testament to how simple they are that I was able to whip up some with scarcely any bother). F-R themselves seem acutely aware of this, given that at least half of the sample patches in the manual appear to be variations on drum and percussion sounds.

Yes, but making drum sounds on a monophonic synth requires a sampler for use... not the same as a nice analog drum machine.

Or, as the 777 is fetching huge cash on ebay - the XS/Orb combo would be a good competition for that. I think it is alot about selling more XS's in the long run... I find the combo more interesting than just getting an XS.

can't see it, modular owners like to have more than one row of 16-steps. And owners with MS synths
won't buy into it either, because it does not have those important outs like the mobius did. Jered has
specifically designed this in all including colour scheme for the XS, as stated - the 1st of the XS-ories.
