New Little Phatty

Post by ballophun » Thu Oct 02, 2008 6:04 am

I've been playing with the idea of getting one for ages... then I got one yesterday.

Holy GOD. Awesome little synth. My experience with analogue synths is limited. I own a broken Juno-106, a broken Korg Micropreset (surprisingly awesome bass actually), and an MC-202. But I'm just blown away by the Little Phatty. I was a little worried because the videos on youtube tend to be guys flicking through presets shredding up the keyboard. It doesn't really show what the thing is capable of.

I think I'm gonna put my own demo up. Just start with one osc and just screw around with it for a while. Maybe put it through a couple pedals too.

I'm very very very impressed. =D> <- That's how impressed I am

I couldn't be happier. :D <- That's how happy I am.

The LP has to be in the number one or two slot out of the 14 or so synths I've owned. Just a delicious little beast, and a doddle to program. It's what the Source would've become if Moog had another decade to refine it.

Congrats! I love mine, I've sold all my other synths because this one does it all for me :)
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

I had one, sold it and regret it.

Does that count?

DO IT JOEY!

You won't regret it.

I don't really understand the CP-251. What's the point of it if you can use the modulator on the Little Phatty itself? So you can do pitch modulation and filter modulation at the same time?

The only complaint I have, and I just might not have found it yet, is the inability to modulate volume. Is that right?

Is is possible to like the Little Phatty more than a Voyager?

I think it is simply because of the cost.

I would be paying more than 3 times what I paid for a Voyager. Neh...

The Voyager is pretty nuts though. The damn spacing function or whatever it's called. Lots of fun. =D>

In case you haven't noticed, I'm making a concerted effort to use more smilies. :o
Not sure why :?

By the way I don't own a gun. I'm Australian. In order to buy a gun in Australia, you have to know the queen personally, marry the Prime Minister's daughter, and be best mates with the Police Commissioner. It's difficult. :^o

I got a waldorf pulse instead....

next synth I get is something really vintage, with no memory or midi, just to really freak myself out haha

for the above poster, I used to own a voyager, but I didn't really like it, and I also didnt really know how to use it back then, I really do regret selling it, but so it goes...

if I were to pick up a new moog synth it'd be the voyager OS.

the digital control on the regular voyager is really inconvenient, i had a lot of complaints iwth it, such as how volume is stored by patch instead of globally, so I blew out a pair of speakers cycling through patches, the knobs were imprecise and skipped values, etc

the phatty lacks enough knobs for fun real time tweaking, and I don't really like the half assed rotary concept they have going, i'd rather have knobs that jump in value, or just plain old endless rotaries instead

the voyager OS solves all of those problems
