Hi,
I just bought a Virus Classic off Ebay, and while I'm enjoying immensely, I'm a bit confused about the preset banks.
The first thing I did was download the OS update off Access' site (ver 4.9 build 061 I believe); this includes the 1024 sounds update. So now I have eight banks of sounds, A though H. I think that banks A and B are user re-writable, for a total of 256 user presets.
The thing is, banks G and H are identical. Since these banks are supposedly ROM sounds that can't be overwritten, what is the purpose of having two identical ROM banks? Thinking the OS/1024 sounds update didn't work properly, I e-mailed Access. They replied quickly and said, "This is indeed normal, so you didn't do anything wrong".
OK, but I'm still puzzled why the banks are the same. It's like losing 128 preset sounds.
Are there any Virus Classic owners out there with the same situation?
Thanks.

Re: Virus Classic owners - question about preset banks
I used to have a Virus B, which is the same thing as the classic, but never noticed the problem, mainly because I never used the presets, and it doesnt really matter because they are non rewritable anyways
sounds like you should just program some of your own sounds

No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

You haven't lost anything. The RAM banks are directly overwritable - e.g. when you dump a bunch of sysex in there they'll be overwritten. The ROM banks have to be copied, so just put whatever you want on banks A and B and then copy them to the banks containing the duplicates.phoenix224 wrote:OK, but I'm still puzzled why the banks are the same.
