korg ms-2000 (limited edition???)

Post by huggieholmes » Thu Jan 01, 2009 5:50 pm

ok, so i just picked up a korg ms-2000 from an ad i found on craigslist. i noticed that there's a plate on the back stating "limited edition". the thing is, i cannot find any info on the nets about a limited edition being made. at the same time, this thing is in pristine condition, and i have a hard time believing that the previous owner slapped some bling on the back, just for the heck of it. if anyone has any info about a limited edition and what exactly make it different from the standard version, i would apprecitate it very much.

on a side note, check out this clip on turning an ms-2000 into a drum machine. i'm sure some of you have seen this before, but thought it was pretty sweet.

My guess is that is just "bling". Korg never released a "limited addition" MS2K in the early "blue" version to my knowledge. I've been a member of the this and the yahoo MS2K forum since it's release and I've seen no mention of a limited addition.

As for the video, that's a member of this forum. He does great vids on many subjects.

Not to mention the Limited Edition plaque doesn't match the design or color scheme of the rest of the synth. Have Korg ever used a script font on any of their gear?

Why doesn't the previous owner know?
Does that mean he also bought it used but kept it in great condition?

That's a tacky, generic "Limited Edition" emblem that they sell at Autozone, attached with a single strip of 3M double-sided tape. A hairdryer on the "hot" setting and some patience should make quick work of this piece of ghetto-fabulousness.

i didn't ask the previous owner. other than having never heard of a LE version, i had no reason to think it wasn't legit. the way it lines up perfectly with the "korg" below seemed like one of those details that a manufacturer would follow through with. it wasn't until getting home and trying to look it up, that i started to question the authenticity.

you're exactly right! you can even find it on the autozone website. nice work, mythbuster.

now the question is, do i risk damaging the finish trying to remove it. or should i just leave it be? you really think a hairdrying (and maybe some goo gone) would do the job?

huggie, i'm diggin' your gearlist -- some wild kit in there, that would work well for industrial/hard techno. what sort of music do you play?

thanks. that's part of what i want to do. i was big into industrial 10-15 years ago. bands like frontline assembly, chemlab, kmfdm, bile, dj! acucrack, sister machine gun, ministry and skinny puppy. i have no idea what's going on in the scene today. so, yeah, i'd like to start a project that falls somewhere in there.

i'm also into stuff like faithless, massive attack, morcheeba, portishead, dido, and imogen heap. i can see myself doing some of that as well. i'm also running emu proteus x, so i can get access to more of the accoustic/live instrument there. any sexy female vocalists around here??

i've compiled almost all of that gear in the past few months. so, i'm still largely unfamiliar with most of it. i can't say i've produced anything of consequence yet, mainly just dinkin' around right now. i still have yet to find a DAW that i really like. i have sonar 6 and tested out ableton's live and acid ms, but i'm not in love with any. i've got parts on order to build a mac clone, so i'm gonna give garage band a try. i think my creativity and productivity are being hindered by the learning curve with them. hopefully garage band can cure that.

i'm open to any recommendations anyone is willing to give me.
