SEIKO DS250 digital synth

Post by Char-El » Sun Feb 01, 2009 12:23 am

Any love around here for this old rare 80s keyboard put out by watchmaker Seiko? Jean Michel Jarre used it on RENDEZ-VOUS album. I used to work in a store that sold them and still recall that the sounds were pretty good for a low priced synth. Kinda hard to find these days.

S'funny, I was gonna ask about these. I often wondered what sound he used them for on that record. It's an additive synth, so it might have been an RMI substitute.

Some good info here:

According to Mark Vail of keyboard magazine, they sounded "Cheesy".

I have one complete set, ds202 w 310 an 320 some very coolsounds can be made, the sequenser is right up arcaic in its design, big lcd displays in both 310, 320 modules, on 320seq the displays show notes when played, very nice.

Best of all is the spage age case in silversoftstyle with "seiko" letters on it. The modules also hv their own silversoftcases wich u strap on the keyboard case as satelites sort of.. i guess i have to get some pics to show u.

Yeah....but the 202 didn't sound as good as the 250. I think SEIKO was trying for the more "pro" level with the 250...the sounds were a bit fatter and synth-y. I sold a ton of the 202 and module combos you mentioned when I worked retail.

here's a link for some info, picture, and a sound sample of the DS250

nice to hear that a mid-80s digitalsynth could be consider fattier and more synth-y, than its sistersynth from the same era :)
