Roland MC-4, few questions

Does anyone know how many of these were ever made? and also, has there been something similar made by another company or is being made?

These are sweet machines for small patterns, but trying to program a song on one is a b***h that I don't care to ever revisit.
I really liked mine, but it was somewhat of a luxury and I sold it to buy a midi-cv converter. It is supposed to be one of the tightest sequencers you can get and I have heard that Vince Clarke was really into them back in the day.
Sorry, can't say how many were made and I doubt you'll find anything else quite like it.

Closest would be an MC8, which is even rarer and harder to program. The obvious question is why you'd want one, unless of course you're trying to put together a totally gear authentic Human League or Yellow Magic Orchestra tribute band.

Does anybody know about the MC-500?
Is it like a cousin of this one or is it totally different?

Way different given that the MC500 is a MIDI sequencer with a floppy disc drive, while the MC4 is CV/gate unit that stored data on cassette.

the closest thing I can think of off the top of my head is the signal arts MAPS...
