Custom synth painting north america?
Does anyone know of a place that does custom synth repainting in north america? the only place I know is customsynth in the UK.
I'd like to get my jp-8000 painted up black, but dont know a place that could re-silkscreen the text.
I was trying to think where i could go that isn't a custom synth place, a place that could just do this sort of thing but i'm drawing a blank.

i've thought about trying it myself but am too intimidated...i would be willing to try on something smaller, that is easy to scan for redesign and easy to print an overlay for, but i wouldn't know how to go about doing it for a full keyboard.BlackGnosis wrote:Could be a fun DIY project

Just take the shell off after pulling the knobs and slider caps off, unscrew the screws, hang the shell, spray paint it black, print out text and design on adhesive metal.. it'll prolly cost a bit through trial and error. but I can garentee the total amount spent doing it yourself and the satisfaction of saying "yeah I did it myself" would prolly be a stronger reward, besides theres lots of super simple spray paint techniques that can really pickup something like a synth.

the painting part im not worried about, it's the labeling....i'm not too keen on doing a sticker as i think it might look cheesy as i couldn't totally wrap the thing do to its shell shape, there would end up being a sticker edge....also not sure what you mean about printing on adhesive metal, whats that?

I'm kinda in the same dilemma after performing some Nova mods on my SH-101. I mounted all of my mod pots, spdt switches, source selector switches in the factory case. Now I'm starting to think I shouldv'e mounted a break-out box for said mods in leui of using the factory case.
After getting a quote on the cosmetic work from CustomSynth-I've decided to do it myself. The actual painting bit I imagine isn't incredibly complicated but you do wanna be extremely mindful about taping off and cleaning the areas where your pots and sliders are going. All to prevent any kind of binding once you've got it re-assembled. Fairly simple, just be mindful of your detailing.
The silk-screening is another matter. Being that I've little to no knowledge about the printing realm; I've decidied to go with Waterslide Decals. Not a true print per se but, from what I've seen the decals look spot on.....for being decals and all. Upload the image in Photoshop, size appropriately, apply your color and then print it out on the waterslide paper. And of course for best result I'd imagine you'd want to pencil out some lay-out marks on the synth before adhering anything.
I've also read a bit here and there about baking the decals on the case at low temperatures, but then you stand a pretty good chance of bubbling the paint. A heatgun kept reasonable distance from the case might work well for that?

Re: Custom synth painting north america?
i'm thinking i might paint it and find a way to scan the face so i can accurately redesign the overlay....i'm just wondering, is there a way to get a decal printed where only your text / lines are stickers? like they do on window and car decals where it prints on a backer strip that is pulled away, so that it's not a big square sticker. I'm sure this is possible, i just don't know what its called and if it would work well.

Interested in this topic also (DIY for good result). Custom Synth does a great job but ££££ so anything that could look almost as good but with me doing the hardwork would be nice to know. Have looked into silk screening....

Sorry I meant I've already considered that option and it seems quite advanced/expensive (to tool up at least if you go DIY). Customsynth do it of course (UK) but for my needs it's overkill for my 'cheap' synths.
I want something that could give a durable silk screen like finish but easier and cheaper, but then I want a lot of things easy n cheap
