Virus TI and TI2 question

Post by infrared72 » Sun Sep 20, 2009 11:22 pm

So i'm back looking at the Virus Ti again, and noticed there's a new one called the Ti2. Aside from processing power and the redesigned metal/plastic case, is there anything else different about the Ti2 when comparing to the original Ti? I can't seem to locate anything definitive that tells me "...and the Ti2 has more of this and that when compared to the original Ti."

Nothing really yet. But the extra processing power leaves room for more OS updates to the TI2 in the future.

what do you mean, the main improvement is the ability to devalue the Ti then repackage and sell the same thing for more money.

Access had to update the TI. Probably because the DSP that is was based on was discontinued. So they had to change it and to avoid confusion, a TI2 was introduced.

For TI1 owners, I donèt think we should be afraid as there is the TI snow which features less processing power but seems to be considered to be part of the new Virus product family, so it has to be supported by Access.

The DSP used in the TI was replaced in the product line with a pin-for-pin replacement- the only reason it was replaced is RoHS compliance.

Official word from access on their official forum is that they don't plan to phase out the TI1 and have TI2 specific features, both synths will receive all future upgrades
No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

Would you happen to have a link to the thread that was in?

I did some browsing at the forum: http://www.virusti.com/forum/
but didn't see anything about that.

It's in the private forum for ti owners I believe, it's a post from Marc

Guess I must be a little dense today. When I go into the private forum, it looks the same, with the same posts, number of areas, number of posts, and so on. The only difference is that you can post as well as read posts.
Still can't find it - oh well.

its in the thread called "future plans for the extra 25% dsp power" on the 2nd or third page of the feature requests forum
we have no plans to treat the TI1 differently to the TI2 when it comes to software updates. the only thing that _might_ happen is that future algorithms are more CPU hungry (because there is a platform now which copes with it) but that's all speculations. we save every CPU cycle possible anyway.

best, marc

Thanks.

It's on page 5 now.

I haven't been using the TI much since I got a new computer. No Virus Control software for 64 bit pc.

I've even toyed with the idea of selling it because of that, but know I'd want to get another one whenever they finally get the 64 bit thing worked out.

I never use virus control...

you are wasting your synth if you dont use it just because you can't use virus control
