Steve Moore
Are there any Steve Moore fans here? I was hoping so since he is a synth master of sorts...just wondering if anyone could identify what it is he is using most of the time?
I know on at least one Zombi release he put what he used into the credits, but thats about all I can find. I'm curious to know what he used in the Gutterballs soundtrack (ESPECIALLY track 3! it is amazing), but also what he uses for his 2003 Demo album, and of course what his set up includes for Zombi, in particular the Cosmos album.
Anyone have any ideas? Any takes/opinions on his music in general?

I see a Macbook and a few M-Audio controllers.
(Probably not the answer you were looking for. I think they have toured before with 'actual' synths, understandably that's not something you want to do very much without a big budget and a nice bus.)
OK - Pro One? I'm sure people here can name the others. Little Phatty on top on the right?

Sapphire is a great track, especially on vinyl...but for me Serpens off of the Cosmos album is just too great...especially the synth jam Steve Moore does near the end, its just amazing. Unfortunately this video isn't live, buuut you can still give the synth jam a listen...

As for the Maudio/Mac stuff - you're right, he probably does not want to take all his expensive, sensitive synths around on tour so they're probably sampled in for safety. I've seen a couple of pics with him surrounded by all vintage synths, buuut I'm just not smart enough to figure out whats what, and they're pics of him on stage while its basically totally dark so its tough to make them out to begin with.
On his soundtrack for Gutterballs (as Gianni Rossi), it has the most "vintage" feeling of anything I've ever heard from him, and thats what I've really been inspired by and curious to learn what he used. The sounds are a bit more brassy - which means it could be something from Sequential Circuits possibly, right?

His drummer released Timespan recently under the name Majeure, which is an amazing synthy krautrock type of record, and he states that he used the mono evolver a good deal on that album. I'm curious if they've used it for Zombi material also...

Re: Steve Moore
I'm a huge steve moore and zombi fan. I know steve uses a polysix and a pro one a fair bit, and a.p. uses (or used) a se six track and a moog source last time I read anything. I once read that they used a p600, which would make sense as it's very zombi-ish, but I have never seen it in any photos. Steve is also using a laptop with a controller for some zombi stuff now, but I don't know what he's running.

I love all of Steve Moore's work too! Here's a Zombi interview where they talk gear.

Re: Steve Moore
Within the last year Steve sold off a good portion of their vintage gear. I saw the auctions for one of the Sources and the Polysix. I actually bid on the Source. Zombi is awesome. If you dig Steve with the band try out his solo albums. the Henge is Berlin School goodness. There's a 10" he just released and another CD but I didn't really care for those as they were more in the vein of '60s electronic music.

Re: Steve Moore
yeah I love his 2003 demo lp, i finally recently found a copy of it on vinyl. it is definitely not like the henge, which is good as well. i also just ordered that new 10" on mexican summer, i hope to get it in this week actually.
his soundtrack as gianni rossi for the film gutterballs is simply amazing to me, it seems to tie in all his different forms of vintage electronica into one very concise, although unfortunately short, set of tracks. the guitar on it sounds really, really at home with him too even though i think it was the most recent zombi album that finally put guitar into the mix, but it doesn't sound as thick and full honestly as the guitar on the gutterballs soundtrack does.
i wish he would do more solo work, i like his take on sound. i would love to find out what he used on the gutterballs soundtrack, because it definitely does not sound like it was a laptop recording. it is too rich and full and spot-on sounding for the style of which he was going for. it doesn't sound at all like he was trying to emulate goblin or any other old school horror themed film music, but rather he came in as an old pro. its extremely impressive.

Oh man you didn't like vaalbara? That is one of my favourites (although really anything hes put out is in my 'favourites' too). Surprised to hear about the polysix going, it sounds like he used that alot. Any idea what hes using as replacements?redchapterjubilee wrote:Within the last year Steve sold off a good portion of their vintage gear. I saw the auctions for one of the Sources and the Polysix. Re: Steve Moore
Nah, I didn't really care for that album. It was cool for what it was but I liked the more melodic side of electronic music.
When I saw them open for Trans Am two years ago in Austin they were still using the vintage stuff. I don't know what they are using now, but some of the sounds on Spirit Animal were leaning more towards electro-mechanical. Mellotrons, some organ. Maybe the next record will go more in that vein? Dunno. I like it when they sound like Rush and post-Gabriel pre-pop Genesis.

yeah i didn't care much for vaalbara either, i like ambient stuff too - but that record was just too boring for me.
that first track on spirit animal is just amazing - to me that is totally classic zombi but also a very steve moore track...the simple melody on there is just great!

Re: Steve Moore
From a couple of years ago with Zombi, I can confirm the Polysix, P600, and Pro One. I have seen them live several times. Surface to Air, and Cosmos are pretty much identical to how they play the tracks live. I few triggered samples but everything was played live with those synths. Also the Source played by the drummer sparingly. Amazing band if you can catch them live!

Re: Steve Moore

I see a moog LP, SCI Prophet 600, DSI Prophet '08 - but what I can't identify is the synth he is actually playing in the pic....is it a Pro-One? Anyone able to confirm that?
