Goodbye Alesis Andromeda ?

Post by alan partridge » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:22 pm

seems to be confirmed from lots of sources now that the A6 really has been discontinued this time. No other new polysynth-keyboards, so hope DSI will carry on building on their success with some good stuff in the future ..;.)

It would be cool if Dave dipped into working with something different than his present soundgenerating circuits. Make a badass vco synth...

I've heard it could also be a ploy to increase sales of the Andromeda. Seems like every production run has been said to be the "last", and then, 6 months to a year later, suddenly another batch appears.

But then, if it IS the last, would that put the Andy into the "vintage" category? ;)

I think we've heard that one before...

I'm really hoping Alesis are not replacing the A6 with their new Q49.

pity if it's true, but like the others have said, this wouldn't be the first "last" time.

If they could produce a 8-10 voices rackmount version of the Andromeda for 1000-1500$, they could sell a lot.

It would be really interesting to see them produce a module version with half the voices. Cut the price in half and that would be a steal of a deal.

Sorry but there is NO HOPE to have a rackmount Andromeda... or any cut down version of it... As said thousand times, Numark who bought Alesis has no interest in the Andromeda... ... no way... The A6 was a strange project... marketing never wanted to start that project. A rackmount Andromeda prototype was ready before the keyboard version... but thanks to the dumbest marketing team of the world it has not been produced.

One of the project leader wrote a lot about the A6 project in a forum... and he said that today no one at Numark knows nothing about the A6 because the project team is not there anymore.

So at he moment they have a great product, a gold mine in their hands but they're too stupid to understand.

So stop dreaming... anf if you have it... well don't sell it.

Right on. Can't imagine not having it.
Gear List: A bunch that go 'WHHONNGG!', several that go 'tweedle tweedle' and 'thumpity', and a few that don't make any noise at all but have lots of delightful little lights on them.

Yeah, what the h*ll is going on with Alesis? It's the same thing with the Fusion - how on earth did they manage to screw that project up? Amazing... :(

The real deal is that they can't make their 1K ASIC any longer. They make a few thousand chips at one time and most do not work. It takes a lot of testing to find out which ones actually do work, some can be somewhat intermittant, it's not as simple as a work/no work. When they have gotten enough chips that worked, they would trickle out a batch of units but the FAB machine is old technology and the manufacturer can't support it any longer (this same chip was used in the Ion which is why it went away).
Alesis knows what they have in the A6. There is no point in marketing it because the limited amounts they can sell are sold before they ship. They would like to make more because they could sell more but they can't and there is no cost effective simple design fix that could make it happen again.

they better spent time working on a proper software update

besides the massive amount of bugs, there are also lots of very good ideas for added functionality out there in the www.

oh mama. please list the REAL bugs. I get so sick of these silly claims. There are a few minor annoyances that I know of. Same for any synth.

Elektron should buy up Ions for the chips and produce Andromedas similar to what they did with the SIDStation. ;)

Seriously though, if they made a chip change for the Micron then it's too bad they couldn't use it for the Andromeda.
