Analog Synth Tempo Knobs??

Post by mikewerk » Sat Feb 06, 2010 7:13 pm

I often use a mix of analog synths with digitally programmed beats. A few of my synths have rhythm features which I'd like to use on top of the digital beats BUT...there's no BPM markers on them so I have to futz around with the knobs allot to get them in sync with the digital programs.

My question is...

Is there some kind of standard tempo range for all or most analog synth knobs which I can use to gauge what tempo they are in?

I want to put little stickers around the knobs so I can quickly set them to the correct BPM, ie 78-BPM.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike

There are no standard tempo ranges.

Most analog synths with arpeggiators have clock/trigger inputs. There's a tread somewhere in this forum with a list of drum machines with trigger outputs. Just program whatever instrument is associated with the trigger out (usually a rim shot with Roland machines) and connect the drum machine's trigger out to the synth's arpeggiator trigger/clock in.

you could use a digital bpm counter, ie: synth (output) -----> BPM counter (if it has an audio thru jack) ------> Mixer
