Dear Virus,

Post by thefleeingloaf » Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:57 pm

Dear Virus,

I am sorry for all the times I thought you were inadequate. I think that I just got a little too "comfortable" with you for a while - even bored. I know, I know, it sounds so harsh to see it written like that. But that's how it is.

Sitting around on the weekends, spending hours on end together, is great. But sometimes I'm just not in the mood, and then I think it's you that's at fault, not me. This leads me to peruse Ebay auctions and Craigslist postings, and to browse VSE and Sound on Sound compulsively, looking for that magical piece of hardware that will make my jam sessions and songs better.

Now I know better. In times like that, I just need some space. We need to not see each other for a few days. Then, when we reunite, it's... it's... magic. You're so much more flexible than I give you credit for. Your effects are fun. Your dual filters add such a sense of motion to the droning pads we create together. You can have several patches sequenced simultaneously.

Combined with Machinedrum, and occasionally controlled via laptop, what more do I need in life? Well, maybe a MOTU, but that's all, I swear.

I love you.

-John

Where are the Barry White covers played on a Virus when we need them the most?

Get a room, willya?

I gotta say, I do something similar with my Virus b. I'm very much liking its pads through a Boss CE-300 chorus these days. I usually leave most of its effects off, save for delay, the occasional phaser, a few of the effects between the filters, and analog boost is an absolute must. Using the latter and being conservative with not too much of the open-filtered highs, I sometimes am fooled into thinking it's not digital. It layers much better that way with true analog, in any case.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

My stupid virus B was a few inches down a lava lamp during an earthquake (I was on a deep dish party).

The lavalamp felt over it, burning it, making sparks, it die horribly, horribly, horribly.
