Guess that string/brass synth
Morning all,
Having spent a few days playing with my recent acquisition, I thought I'd treat you all to a listen, and entreat you to guess what synth it is.
The only external effects used were delay and reverb, after a touch of compression. It's a multitrack recording, one track for the strings and one for the brass:
Mystery string/brass demo (mp3)
Any clues as to what it is?
(A free foot massage from Tallow for the correct guess!)
Cheers

Sounds good!
Of course it's more than likely to be a certain string machine/ensemble keyboard, but I'm thinking it's probably something less obvious. I'm going with a Nord Modular.

Thanks James! Good first guess, but sadly miles off the mark.
It's:
- not any kind of Nord
- not a modular synth

Re: Guess that string/brass synth
you're certainly making it tricky with the effects and layering! since you're using the word brass, i'm assuming its a orchestra or a prelude (which are pretty much identical anyways!), and not either of the solinas. i can't think of any other units off the top of my head. i'm skeptical that its any of these however, becuase i dont hear any filters, and i don't think you can hide the filters on brass section of either the orchestra or prelude very well.
so i guess - i dunno
whatever it is, it sounds great! i'd love to hear some dry, unlayered tracks!

Thanks! Here's the strings minus reverb and delay:tomorrowstops wrote:whatever it is, it sounds great! i'd love to hear some dry, unlayered tracks!
Mystery Strings - dry (mp3)
To clarify further, it's not a Yamaha, or an ARP, or an Oberheim.
It does have a unison mode and built-in chorus; I'm only using the chorus at the moment.
Cheers

Re: Guess that string/brass synth
Not a Korg, Synthex or Roland.
Some more hints: it's North American in origin. It has two oscillators per note, and a maximum of 32-note polyphony.
A bit of applied thinking might find the answer..!

It's not Yamaha, alright. That much I could tell.
If it's American, all I can off the top of my head are the Multivox ones. MX-3000? Not sure what you mean by "unison" here though.
