an alesis micron as midi keyboard for a desktop evolver

is it possible to use a micron as a keyboard for the desktop evolver ?
( micron MIDI OUT to evolver MIDI IN)
is there any specific setting to do on the micron or evolver side?

last (but silly) question : if i only want to hear the evolver, i just turn down the micron volume, right ?

Set the Evolver to the same midi channel that the Micron is sending on.
And ya - to hear just the Evolver, turn the Micron volume down.

Also very fun and useful:

Go into the main settings menu and switch it to "send patterns only". Now you can send all the Micron patterns and sequences you make yourself to the Evolover. In other words, you're adding a sequencer to your Evolover. One of the main reasons I love the micron is this feature. I use the sequencer to send patterns to my Sidstation, CZ101 and even my midi Pro-One. Of course you can send midi sequences straight out of your DAW to the Evolver but the sequencer in the Micron is just fun and some of the patterns are good starting points.

...well there you go. Thanks Stab I didn't know the Evolver had it's own sequencer as I've never owned one or even played with one. Regardless, I think that "send pattern" feature of the micron is pretty cool. Of course now I want an Evolver!

I'll have to check the Micron manual but a lot of synths allow you to set local control to "off" (so that the Micron wouldn't be making any sounds just sending MIDI messages).

Yep, but if you do sequence it externally, doesn't that give you an extra 16 steps to use as a mod source?
