Been away for about 2 years.
Have not kept up with trends here.

Has there been a big surge towards software synths by members here, in the last 2 years.
Or are members still firmly hardware orientated.

Wonder if Mr Rich is still around

I do NI, Arturia, GForce and some Synthedit stuff like Sonic Projects and Elektrostudio. A few free vst VA's are nice like Antti and MDA. But it all gets mixed outboard and I still have the gear listed at right. If I get the bug to play some vintage, I go hang with Z.

I haven't seen Mr. Rich in a while. Still lurking, I suspect.

The interest in hardware is xpanding.
The Andromeda was discontinued. It is worth more than retail now.
Availability of rare vintage hardware seems to be spiraling.
Prices of good vintage gear is increasing still even during these trying times.

Anywho. I use hardware for sound generation and software for audio and midi sequencing. I am currently looking at a EMU XL7 to do midi and drum sequences with, but I'm on the fence about the purchase.

with me nothing much has changed, i still use VSTi only for samples i.e. orchestra, ethnic, acoustic drums and percussion. everything synthesis is hardware, and/or real instruments recorded like guitar, rhodes, bass etc.

i still mix ITB as deadlines are always short, and total recall is much needed. also, as someone said "trying times" don't allow me to venture into buying a small console that i am thinking of for last 2 yrs. hopefully that will change. i still very much dislike the ITB mixing results, but what can you do..

I havent extracted sound from my hardware setup for almost 1 year.

Not even the famed JUNO-D which (while I turn around) is not even in my studio. Someone jealous has obviously pinched it

Software synths are now so complicated.

Sylenth softsynth seems a good one to attempt a hardware sound.

I'm now up to trying to get a swirling swoooooosh.
The tumble dry tunnel effect, you hear before the the the big tune kicks in.

in the last years i did the opposite . i started out in systhesis with software like most people in my generation i suppose . but moved quickly to hardawre because a physical synthesizer feels like a musical instrument under my hands . its all about the relationship you have with youre soundsource .
the other thing is when i get smoked out , i just cant handle the computer but find my way pretty well on a keyboard instrument .

My setup is around 50/50 hardware and software. It's great to turn the computer off and just jam with the hardware keyboards. This doesn't get recorded, but it's fun and relaxing. For time-critical short projects, I'm 100% software.

Where ya been dude? Have you made another dance music song in the two years you've been away, or still perfecting the same one? I'm about the same from a couple years ago, maybe a little more software and a little more hardware, but not much has changed on either side of the fence for me.

Hey Techno. I sold a bunch of gear and am only recently looking to put things back together, but apart from Ableton Live sequencing no softsynths per say. Hope all your music is going well!
