synths similar to poly61?

Post by cuwise » Mon Oct 25, 2010 10:29 pm

first post :)

ive been a big fan of the sound of my poly61 for many years
just love the filter on it, there's a certain harshness to it that i haven't heard anywhere else

i wonder if there are any other synths, besides the poly6, that come close to the 61?

cheers!!

I find the Akia AX-73 to be quite a simula synth on it has VCOs rather than DCOs. http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/ax73.php

However I dont find the Poly 6 and 61 to be simular to each other at all. AX-73 is much closer even programs the same way.

I'm not too certain how similar the Polysix is to the 61, but the Mono/Poly can certainly approximate most Polysix patches

thanks!

i may have been misinformed about the poly6 i suppose..
i haven't spent enough time with one to judge for myself

the akai looks quite promising though, also love how there's a rack version!

The answer you're looking for is the Korg Delta.

I think Korg Poly-800 is the closest to the 61.
Try it out
Or EX-800 if you want the module or another brand which sounds similar is Siel DK-80 (EX-80 is the module).

as long as your Korgs got those irritating power cord hooks (instead of a detachable cord), its gotta be awesome

also, love your gear list

I've gotten most of my old sounds I used on the poly 61 out of my JX8P. It seems to have the same sound to it, although of course the JX8P does a lot more, with sync and all of that. They're not interchangeable, but the JX8P will do the 61 sound pretty well. Of course you're missing the arp.
I found the poly 61 and 6 to sound nothing alike at all, actually, and the delta isn't seperate voices, that one envelope thing with a divide down circuit makes it sound awefully organ like to my ear.
edit:the poly 800 was nowhere near the poly 61, way thinner and toylike
