Amazing Klaus Schulze performance

Post by balma » Fri Dec 10, 2010 7:52 pm

This video deserved a thread. One of the most brilliant integrations of old and new tools for electronica performance I ever watched on Youtube.

ENJOY!:

Reminds me of some of his Dark Side of the Moog stuff with Pete Namlook.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

He's also got an E-mu E4K like mine.
Speaking of integrating new and old instruments, I also like Jean-Michel Jarre's 2007 re-recording of 'Oxygène' DVD.

I don't want to offend anyones tastes, but... if this were not "klaus schulze" and you didn't have a video to show all the gear would you be that impressed by this?
It sounds like a bad preset demo track from a groovebox to me.

Considering the musical knowledge that you have exposed in your posts , I would normally skip this but it seems that you are making me a question, or is a question made to anyone in this forum?

:truce:
I gotta agree w/ the naysayers here - the viddy was quite tame and what he did there has been done 10000x times already. Ironically, the post-80s Tangerine Dream everyone loves to diss sounded A LOT like this around 1997. (Oasis anyone??)

As much as I admire Schultze for his 'getting in the game early' status, most of his music leaves me cold. I liked Cyborg and X for their time - but today he simply doesn't have anything much to offer except to the New-Age Birkenstock crowd.

I wonder how much people does still playing in this way, realtime with multiple devices, surrounded by synths that are not just for sexy looking for for real hand performance. They are less and less everyday, and he stills having a strong interaction with his gear.

Man, it's very hard to keep a growing curve of innovation during such a long time, so it's normal to expect from these Senior musicians a classic performance. IMO those arpeggios changing scales on progressive ways are a fantastic trip.
