Makes me want to see the movie now. That and the soundtrack to Solaris from 2002, which I stupidly just discovered.

Thanks that was really cool. My admiration for Trent Reznor never ceases. He's a true professional thru and thru.

I really liked the soundtrack, but I didn't know he wrote it. The video was cool.

just watched this movie last night. the score is wonderful. reznor's take on "in the hall of the mountain king" is pure class and excellence.

started end of 2009 and stuff kept getting sold throughout the year.
there were just tons and tons of effects boxes, synths, etc.
and apparently a banjo!

they're both awesome flicks. watch the original solaris from '72 first if you can.

Right on Space boy! The original Solaris soundtrack left me in some amniotic awe. Check out the Criterion dvd. There's an interview with Artmiev, the composer (who also did the score for Urga). The story behind Solaris music is quite fascinating.

you know, i have that & haven't watched it yet... i picked up solaris on VHS years ago before it was available on DVD, then a couple years ago a friend gave me the criterion collection release. i'll have to find a day to park it & break that out...

So you have the dvd and have not been watching it??!
I'll buy it from you right away!!

Watching this movie is like putting on a 3 hours long ambient record... but with awesome images full of meaning (a bit like Baraka, but in some ways). Nobody can film nature like Tarkovski. Just the way he films seaweed in the beginning of the movie, it's just so hypnotic. Makes you feel what it is to be alive. I think there's also an amazing scene with just a horse or a bush in the wind... Sounds boring, but it's the most fascinating and beautifully contemplative film I might have seen.

Switching from vhs to dvd might just enhance the experience.

The Social Network is cool too btw.. but not as mindblowing imho. :)

it's an old, slow, long, subtitled movie. awesome flick but not one i'd wanna sit through over & over...

also the criterion DVD version's readily available for 24 bucks.

Watching classic films should not be perceived as a painful duty indeed.
