strange jp8000 behavior

I recently got a used Roland JP8000, it seems to work perfectly except for one quirk I can't figure out. It appears to be constantly sending some midi signal. It starts as soon as it's turned on. I used a midi monitor and it says that it is an "active sense" signal. I hadn't heard of this so I looked it up. This says it's a "safety feature" to help to stop the transmission of unwanted signals, but it's annoying to have the interface's and Ableton Live's incoming light flashing all the time. The manual doesn't mention it and a Google search didn't turn up much of use, but the dearth of information gives me the suspicion that this "feature" can't be turned off.

Does anyone have similar observations about the JP8000? Thoughts on turning off Active Sense?

Other info:
OS - Windows XP
Ableton Live Suite 8
Midi Interface - Motu Express 128 USB

The midisolutions event processor and midi router will filter midi messages. I would contact them or read the manuals to ensure your problem can be solved by their product(s).
