the supersaw in a non dance trance track?

Post by nuketifromorbit » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:26 am

I bought a synthesis technology e340 cloud generator, and needless to say it can do far more than the generic super saw. Even so I'm curious to know if the typical super saw patch has ever been used in a song that isn't trance or a horrible kesha club remix.

Add N to X have a few patches with really big detuned saws going on, not sure if they used a VA supersaw or just something with lots of oscs though. Sounds awesome.

Check out "Light and Space" by english progressive metal band Threshold. Keyboardist Richard West has used the JP-8000 plenty.

You hear the supersaw bass in the intro riff!

This is what I was thinking of, supersaw or just detuned saws to you? I always thought it sounded awesome but it's not as fizzy and thin sounding as your average supersaw.

I use the supersaw oscs on my V-Synth for pad sounds, that's pretty much the only thing I find them good for. Sure if I got an e340 I'd find other uses though. :D

Thanks thats a cool example. Yeah it isn't exactly hard to find other uses for it, that is the beauty of the modular format. Plus it can do just two detuned saw waves, features sine outs (for dewanatron style swarms), and can function as a colored noise generator. Honestly I don't have the hate for the super saw that some people have here, I actually kind of like it, its just been used in some horrible contexts.
