Hello, new member and a few questions about FAEMI-M

Hello forum, upon researching (I'll tell you the story in a bit,), I found this website, I browsed for a while but felt that I didn't quite get the whole picture.


I live in North America, and over the weekend I was cleaning out my recently passed Grandfather's garage out and found this:


this is taken from ruskeys.net but what I assume it is, that it is an old Russian synthesizer. Now after fiddling around with it, it made some extremely cool sounds and I fell in love with it immediately. It also looked like it was worked on to be able plugged into out plugs in Canada.

I'm pretty young and I know nothing about it, and the website I mentioned above didn't really say much, or at least much that I could understand.

I was wondering, since the item is extremely old, would it be possible to find other pieces of equipment to enable it to be played through the computer?

i doubt many people on here have ever had / used one of those. from a quick search though, there are plenty of sites with info on it. it does not have MIDI, nor CV/gate inputs, so it is not controllable by your computer or other gear if that's what your question meant.

if you're talking about a piece of equipment to be used as an audio input for recording it, your computer most likely already has an 1/8" jack for that, or there are tons of USB & firewire interfaces, just hit a major retailer like musicians friend / guitar center.

So there is no way of plugging this unit into the computer with a 3rd party piece of equipment?

what are you meaning? for the computer to control the synth, or to hear its sound through your computer?

Like to press on the keys, to twist the knobs, and whatever you do to the synthesizer to be transferred to the computer, to be recorded, or played on a musical program, like FL studio, or any other (I'm terrible at this stuff, so I'm just trying to sponge as much info as I can, my apologies with the lack of understanding, English is my third language)

So yes, to hear it through the computer, and to possibly record it.

yes - you just need to run a cable from the synth's audio output jack to the computer's audio input jack. the sound coming out of the synth is the only thing the computer can receive.

I thought Russian synths didn't have a typical 1/4" out but needed a little DIN converter.

hadn't heard of that, looks like that first jack to the left when facing its back panel is a 5 pin...

Some other makes have the audio in and out with a DIN too. East german and such.
