Re: Vangelis synthvideo
Okay, let's see....
Yamaha CS-40M
Roland Promars (below CS-40M)
Prophet 5 rev 2
Roland SH-3A (below P5)
Roland Jupiter 4 (below VP-330).
Korg KR-55 (on top of the CS-80)
Roland CSQ-100 sequencer (on top of the CS-40M)
Furthermore, in the background against the wall we can see a Minimoog, SH-2000 and an ARP 2500 (Raphael Preston's synth).
Btw, this footage is from may 1981, not 1982 as stated in the comments.
EDIT: it's a SH-1000 in the background (underneath the minimoog), not SH-2000. The "oboe" sound in the second video below
seems to come from this synth.

Re: Vangelis synthvideo
GODDAM! The CS-80 is such an amazing performance synth!
I also spy a Korg KR55 next to the System 100 synth & sequencer and what looks like a Jupiter 4 underneath the VP-330.
There's a Prophet 5 and MiniMoog not being used.
I can't tell what is to his right. I'm assuming a CP-80 with a monosynth on top. My ? is what's that white 1' x 1' thing with sliders? I'm guessing a mixer.

Re: Vangelis synthvideo
Thanks for sharing! I was so close to getting a CS60 (closest I'll ever come to a CS80) it was a dream that has eluded me...this doesn't ease the pain in anyway.
Nonetheless, amazing stuff! Random Improv, wow.
Re: Vangelis synthvideo
Vangelis is dressed the same as with the Neuronium jam video in his studio. Has to have been filmed the same day or time.

Re: Vangelis synthvideo
ARP 2500 there too, obviously. This is typical "doesn't go anywhere" music. It sounds like an intro, promising, but renages on that promise.
Re: Vangelis synthvideo
Still, he's been a huge success and lived the dream that a great many of us aspire to. Plus, he's been responsible for some of the greatest synth albums of all time, and scored several of the all time top-ten films [Bladerunner, Chariots]. I'm not a diehard fan, though - Bladerunner's a seminal album, but I prefer Antartica and the Jon/Vangelis stuff.

Re: Vangelis synthvideo
Yes, he has a lovely house in Athens. It's the film thing. Like Enya.

It was filmed around the same time, in may 1981.Virgule wrote:Vangelis is dressed the same as with the Neuronium jam video in his studio. Has to have been filmed the same day or time.

Or maybe he just really likes that shirt. He's probably got more synths than clothes.Virgule wrote:Vangelis is dressed the same as with the Neuronium jam video in his studio. Has to have been filmed the same day or time.
Anayways...Always a pleasure to hear Vangelis stuff. Never heard this session before.

I think he's fantastic, can listen to him noodling all day long. Those lovely soundscapes he creates off the cuff like that are just sublime.

Re: Vangelis synthvideo
At the same time I think his glory days have gone. He was outstanding in the 70's and 80's and part op the 90's, but the 00's (apart from Mythodea, which was an early 90's composition) were weak in my point of view. He should try to go back to his progrock days and restart from there, skip the orchestral stuff and the new age which is nowadays often based on single-run simple two-hand improv/playing without much of that typical arp/seq Zyklus/Direct technology.
