comparing the two would be stupid. one sounds way better, the other one has modern features and is actually available in stores.

Re: Well this is a stupid cartoon.
Well no, they sound completely different and good in their own right, and excel at different things. "Better" is subjective. Does the J8 make better analog pads? Analog brass? Of course. But it can't warp and skew samples around or sound like a D-50.
One is $800 used, and the other is like $5000 used. I mean they couldn't be more different in the first place.

Maybe the joke is that the first one is so young and foolish it can't spell you're correctly.

The incorrect usage of "your" tells you everything you need to know.

This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

I've heard the jupiter 8. Don't know what the big friggin deal is. Overpriced dinosaur. The jupiter 80 is just as silly.

Sound designers, and the context they're dealing with, decide what synth sounds better, not synths themself. That basically levels all 'versus threads', ever..

look at the big picture man. If somebody knows no s**t about synths, all of them will sound terrible on his hands, that's the whole problem with these stupid comparisonsgridsleep wrote:I've heard the jupiter 8. Synths are more than just a characteristic group of sounds, they are whole inventions to serve your musical creativity:

Re: Well this is a stupid cartoon.
People judge gear too much by what they think it should be, rather than for what it actually is... same goes for music. Jupiter 8, D-50, JD-800, JP-8000, JVs all the XPs, V-synth and SH-201 - they are like different generations in the same family. Would anyone expect all their relatives to sound the same?

Analog, unless it's modular, is worthless to a sound designer. Analog is a timbral choice, not a functional choice.CS_TBL wrote:Sound designers, and the context they're dealing with, decide what synth sounds better, not synths themself. That basically levels all 'versus threads', ever..
