As everyone here is surely familiar, a typical synth critique is "the presets don't do the board justice." Just wondering if there's any nominations for factory presets that knocked it out of the park from the get-go.

Apologies in advance if this has ever been a thread here before ...

Roland D-50 presets probably have gotten more radio play than any other synth. other than the everpresent DX7 electric piano.

Yeah, my first instinct was to say D-50, mainly because of the pure percentage of presets that became ubiquitous. Also, as great as that board was, there really weren't TOO many places left to go after them either.rhino wrote:Roland D-50 presets probably have gotten more radio play than any other synth. other than the everpresent DX7 electric piano.

The "WhatThe?" preset on the Alpha Juno 2. Most of the TB-303 presets are pretty awesome too.

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
The DSI products I've had (Tetra, Evolver and now PEK) have all had impressive presets. That's partly because they are nice units, partly because they throw in something for everyone, and partly because they just have a LOT of them so you're bound to find something you like. But most importantly, they demonstrate what the machines can do rather than trying prove that they can mimic the latest coolest sounds at the moment.

love the presets on a CR78 and the CR8000's from Roland. Samba never sounded so good! (I'm not kidding either)

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
Of course the D-50 and DX7 - and the Fairlight CMI certainly sold itself with its library of famous samples.
I do recall hearing TONS of presets from the MicroKorg during the Electroclash period - seemed like everyone had one and nobody bothered programming it

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
There was some good presets on the Korg Prophecy. That was a long time ago, maybe it's outdated now, but I remember one called 'Eerie Sun' which was very cool.

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
so far i've found the alesis ion presets to be extremely good, great variety and totally useable.
the j00piter one especially, sounds amazing.
I havent even really got round to getting deep into the programming yet as every sound i've needed has been in the presets (only had it a few weeks though

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets
Given how many presets were apparently never altered in the early days of prgrammable synths it's a reasonable guess today's users aren't any more lilkely to progam things.
