I've seen this in a couple different places. Is this something that appeared on early units? It's kind of interesting.

huh, i've never seen that before. if you hadn't already seen it more than once i'd have guessed they were replacements.

It's my understanding that some early prototypes had blue buttons. Having said that, it would certainly be easy to replace the buttons . In fact, I have thought about putting some different colored buttons on mine.

If you see one of these for sale, I would check the serial number. A very early one might mean you must buy it.

Eh, never heard of that.

Roland gear was consistently black around that time anyway.

The brown/black thing sounds familiar. I looked at a few web pages when I first got mine but I have barely looked at any thing since then. I also have barely touched the 808 either, for some reason.

I assumed it was a joke...

like a reference to the Fender "blackface" "silverface" thing.

Is that from the people who think there are green SH-101s and Juno 106s with green printing on them instead of blue?

I replied to a guy wanting to buy a TR808...I was thinking of selling mine (not now) and he asked if it was a black face or brown ect....Mine is more black than brown....

Kind of the usual strange questions you get asked these days...
