Moog Sonic Six and the EMS Synthi were originally conceived for the educational market, or so the legend goes.

When I was a kid someone brought one of those Korgs (i think) into our classroom and told us how synths could emulate any musical instrument. The the ROMplers came and ate them.

Supposedly EML originally intended its instruments for the educational market, and I remember reading that one model had a hunk of cement in the bottom to make it harder for the students to steal.

I read somewhere that the original idea for the Wurlitzer electric pianos was to enable a whole classroom full of piano students under the supervision of one teacher simultaneously, using headphones as to not disturb each other, and then the teacher could "tune in" to one student at a time and give instructions.

I was lucky in high school to have a music technology course wherein a few synths were used as educational resources.

The basics were done on an Electrocomp EML101/100 (or something like that) patching/modular/signal path/etc. Good stuff

I've got shelves full of electronic music books, including that "Electronic Music in the Classroom" and its companion volume/s (can't recall right now how many were in the set). They're good fun. There's info on making reverbs and echo units out of household goods, and a few basic circuits designed for tag-strip soldering - if I remember to photograph a couple I'll post them.

that's exactly how it worked at the school I went to in Dallas....
