Korg X5D OS?

Post by Mattew96 » Sun May 27, 2012 11:40 pm

Hopefully this is as simple as I hope, but I just want to know what the last OS release for the Korg X5D is. I am running two on OS 14. (it says Version 14, so I'm assuming it's the same thing...)
I tried emailing Korg, but their vintage help service only covered old manuals. When I emailed them I got a response which didn't even help me with my question:

Hello Matthew,

Thank you for your inquiry. There are no updates available for the X5D. Please let me know if I can be of any additional assistance. Please note, e-mail and phone support is only offered for products first manufactured in 1999 or later.

Best regards,

Max

Product Support Supervisor

Thanks, Korg, real helpful. I did mention that I found no other support option in the initial message, but whatever. I emailed them back today, so I hope by tomorrow I'll get to the bottom of this, either by you wonderful people, or by Korg.
Also, if there happens to be another update for the X5D past V. 14, anyplace I could download it?

How does one get the new OS into the synth?

The synth isn't THAT old, you can probably transfer it via a sysex program on PC.

Age has nothing to do with it. This synth is not user updateable. If it was, there would be a download available. I don't see anything here and there's nothing in the manual:

So is it crashing or glitching? Why do you need an update?

Oh, the reason I would look for OS updates isn't necessarily because something is broken or doesn't work, but the new features they sometimes bring, changes or additions that make the synth easier to use. Like my Motif XF has had two updates since it was released last year, where they added things users have asked for in the forums, like a better category search feature, more filter models, changes in menus, and tweaks here and there.

v14 is probably burned into the synth by Korg and not updatable.

Got a real reply from Korg today:
There was never any update made to the operating system of the X5D, therefore the operating system that shipped with the keyboard was the operating system that was on all units throughout its manufacture.

Seems weird they'd include the version number at all, but nice intuition there anyways!
Thanks for the thoughts

Yeah, in some cases "if it's not broken, don't fix it" is just fine :)
