Just how long was the D-50 produced?

Post by Alex E » Thu Dec 06, 2012 11:27 pm

I found a D-50 on eBay with the serial number HC61779. -That translates to May 1991, and unit number 81779. So the D-50 was still in production until at least then.

I knew Roland made a quite a few of these things, but I never realized production lasted that long.
However, the M1 lasted until 1994, so there you go.

Just thought this was cool, carry on!

Yeah but I'm sure it lasted longer than '89. It was still very popular that year as well. It's gotta be like 1991 or 1992.

If the Roland serial checker is to be believed, I've had a D-50 that was manufactured in mid 1990. Surprised me.

The December 1990 issue of Keyboard magazine has a synth buyers guide and the D50 is listed with a retail price of $2,095, with all data current as of October 1990.

The D50 is not listed in the December 1991 buyers guide.

This leads me to believe it was probably taken off the market sometime in 1991.
