Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Just came across this on YouTube - rather interesting looking. Has selectable waveforms, sub oscillator, analog filter, etc. - metal case and doesn't require stylus anymore.

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Here's what I just said on YouTube about this: Still has all the expressiveness of a cast iron condom, just like the original Stylophone. I don't know what this is for, but it's completely useless for music.
When I was about thirteen or so I had one of the original Stylophones. What a complete waste of time and money that was.

Interesting, but too pricey to be considered a toy. And I don't think pro musicians are the customers in mind...

Looks interesting but i think they're taking the Stylophone too far like they did with the 350S. I picked up an original late 60s black model earlier in the year, much prefer it to the S1 and it finds its way onto some of my recordings.

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Those clips are sure to turn any potential buyers off - you think Dubreq would have at least used someone (not their marketing director) with some talent and enthusiasm, better camera, better sound, etc. You think they'd try harder considering the thing costs £299.
You would at least have thought they'd have focussed a touch more on real-world performance and had at lease included MIDI IN so users weren't stuck with the touch plate - or a small sequencer - or a real LCD instead of revolving lights for visual feedback. A few more finessing touches would have made this a good deal more appealing.

Seriously, they're charging £299 for this? I wouldn't pay £2.99. Actually I wouldn't pay anything for it. I wouldn't give it houseroom. I really can't believe that.
That's the funniest thing I've heard all Christmas, though.

I *really* don't get how they expect to sell these without putting a minimum of effort into recording the audio in decent quality. A standard PC has awesome recording quality these days and yet they go with recording off the internal speaker using a microphone. With some more spit and polish in their presentation they could've gotten an entirely different response from new potential customers. Makes me sad to see how these guys are shooting themselves in the foot doing this sort of thing.
I might still buy it, if a trusted dealer has these in stock. I won't be placing a preorder with a company associated with the Chimera Synthesis guy again though. In the immortal words of former president Bush: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."

I thought the osc detuning sounded pretty cool. I don't see how people could think it's useless for music though....

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
I saw the video and was going to post that I would like to pair it with the Metasonix D-1000.
http://www.metasonix.com/index.php/d-1000-drum-machine
http://www.thewretch.com/d1000/D1000%20Demo.mp3
For a true sonic powerhouse.
But then I got nervous trying to be sarcastic- figuring someone on VSE would say "Awesome, that's a perfect addition for my modular set up!"
But I couldn't get through the speaking parts and kept skipping ahead and the audio never seemed to change.
I thought it was a problem with YouTube. I guess not.

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Haters are going to hate. I won't get one personally, at least not for a long time and when/if I do it'll probably be second hand.. but again, haters gunna hate. Instead of being rash and mean spirited, lets take a look at what is actually being shown before us.
On paper (and looks) it actually appears to be pretty decent. 2 VCOs w. a 7 octave range, 12dB/octave state-variable filter, subosc (nice), LFO with 8 waveshapes, Aux-in, and CV + Trig (env) inputs, and a 1/4" output.
That in mind, if you forget for a second (or not forget if you're fond of them) that this is in a Dubreq/stylophone casing.. then its specs and pricing clearly compete well against all the other boutique small/desktop analogues out there.
Also.. apparently the video is nothing more than a tease & a 'it exists' type post for those that've already paid and signed up to the beta. Not promotion. That's actually pretty clear if you pay attention to the other information out about the S2 besides the singular youtube post. FYI.. most people do this. Teenage Engineerings many early videos/teasers quickly come to mind. No use even commenting on this aspect.

I remember seeing very similar things happening with the bC16 now that you mention it.
I'm sure it's a lovely instrument but that guy has used up his reputation for pay-in-advance preorders.

That didn't sound too bad! Wonder what the recording process was like (FX used, etc.). The price point could be the killer for them, though. Hmmm ...
And - here's the out-of-touch-part - does the original song sound like that, too? I've never heard an actual Justin Beiber song that I know of, so how close is it? No, I can't be bothered to look it up.

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Actually it's a pretty sick production, Max Martin(the bass guitar sound is going to sound familiar to anybody who's ever heard a pop song in the last 5 years ) on the verses and chorus and EDM favourite Zedd on the interlude, I'm kind of assuming they actually picked this song because the rubbery saw interlude would probably suit the stylophone well. It does sound pretty similar but I mean it's obviously been effected heavily, like some serious sidechain going on in there...Blue Monster 65 wrote:That didn't sound too bad!
actually if i'm going to be honest the whole "Believe" album is much better than I expected
