Was the DX100 made just for live-performances?
The guitar strap tabs, pitch& mod wheel placement, battery power makes it all convenient for live performances.. i just got a guitar strap for mine and wearing it, it's like i can see why roger troutman perferred to use it for talkbox.. to wearing it like a guitar and jamming around would make a good watchable show, the pitch and mod wheel position are in a very nice place, couldn't imagine turning my microkorg into a keytar being comfortable at all with the wheels.

Although the DX100 could be strapped on like a CZ-101, SH-101 or Poly 800, the marketing push was towards amateur musicians which is why they created the only TV commercial for a synth that I can remember.
Yamaha like every other mfr was blindsided when Casio entered the market with a $500 MIDI polysynth and quickly stuffed the guts of the DX21 into the small case to grab a piece of the action.

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

My first 'real' synth. The ability to wear it as a keytar was certainly part of the appeal when it was launched. It was a DX27 (the 21 is slightly different) in a different box but that box was certainly a selling point.
