Does anyone know what synths were predominantly used by Brad Fiedel during his commercial success in the 80's.
The guy really knew how to programme a ballsy string sound! I love how metallic and intimidating his scores generally end up.
What synths did Brad Fiedel favour?

What synths did Brad Fiedel favour?
Replicants are like any other machine, they're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, its not my problem.
Re: What synths did Brad Fiedel favour?
Here's a list of the synths & samplers that Brad FIedel has been using during the 1980's:
Prophet 10 (one of the first P-10's off the production line - late 1980 onwards)
Oberheim system (OB-Xa, DMX & DSX) - sometime in 1984 or 1985 he moved to an OB-8.
Emulator I
Emulator II (1985 onwards)
Roland TR-707 (1985 onwards)
Ensoniq Mirage (x2)
Korg PS-3100 (x2)
Yamaha DX-7 (1984-85 onwards)
Voyetra-8 (1985 onwards)
Fairlight CMI III (1987-88 onwards)
Casio FZ-10M (1987-88 onwards)
Yamaha TX-802 (1987-88 onwards)
Prophet VS rack mount version(1987-88 onwards)
Korg M-1 (1989/90 onwards)
Not sure if he ever recorded with the old Korg's or the Mirage samplers.
Hope this helps
cheers,
Micke

Thanks for the Info!
I can definitely see the Prophet 10/VS and oberheim influences in there. Especially in the Terminator soundtracks.
His programming is second to none!

You're welcome
Yeah, the Prophet 10 and OB-Xa are all over the score.
Equipment used on the Terminator soundtrack (1984):
Oberheim system (OB-Xa, DMX and DSX)
Prophet 10
Emulator I
Kawai grand piano
Electric violin (played by Ross Levinson)
...and last but not least, the cast iron frying pan hit with a hammer
I was told by Brad Fiedel that one of the challenges was keeping the prophet sequences and the Oberheim in sync as they were not connected by midi at that time.
Brad's score for Terminator 2 (1990) was almost entirely done on two Fairlight CMI III's.

What about the Fight Night II score, any ideas what synths? Specifically the song 'Come To Me' synth melody.

Re: What synths did Brad Fiedel favour?
Brad Fiedel used the oberheim system Ob-xa DMX Dsx sequencer for terminator 1 , it was not a big budget film so the system oberheim was perfect for this science fiction movie in 1984.
