Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
So they are using Korg 35 filter chip? Isn't that a rare part and not being produced anymore? Did they get a plant to make it again?garranimal wrote: Can't wait to hear the Korg35 filter in the mini.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
The 35 chip can be done with regular components, I'd say that's what they've done on this.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
IC chips can mostly be remade with standard electronics components. IC means integrated chip, it's basically just a miniature set of resistors, capacitors and whatnot laid out in the way they would be in a normal circuit.
They are analog electronics too. There is no magic here.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
Actually that was interesting what he said about the effect of low voltage on Opamps, would certainly explain why the monotron's were so noisy.
Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
what I picked up from that video - he is very interested in bringing the SQ-10 back as it is very different from modern sequencing and he'd like to introduce it to the new generation of users.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
If that's the case, besides getting the rights to use the chip, what would stop them from rebuilding the SSM circuits?

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
They pretty much said they're reissuing the SQ-10 in that video. I wonder when it'll be coming out and if it'll have a quantiser as part of it?Hybrid88 wrote:Another one from Sonicstate![]()

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
Nick Batt did a great job in the 2nd interview asking all the pertinent questions. Of which it was interesting to see the designers were tempted to creep some new features but stuck to their original mission to remake something true to the original that is affordable.

No it was an awful interview Nick Batt asked lame questions.garranimal wrote:Nick Batt did a great job in the 2nd interview asking all the pertinent questions. Redesigning them to fit into modern environmental regulations.Kidney05 wrote:If that's the case, besides getting the rights to use the chip, what would stop them from rebuilding the SSM circuits?
Besides, someone has already made SSM clone ICs.
Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
An integrated circuit may consist of several discrete components. It's typically a key-part in a larger circuit and encapsulated and sealed in resin to avoid cloning by rivals. ARP did this and some boutique stompboxes still do. Korg then treated their IC35 like a single component to be used in other designs. Not sure which ones but MS-10 M500SP and X911 spring to mind.
btw the IC35 schematic is around and I don'trecall it being ota based. if the new ms20 mini filters have lm13600 ics inside then it's the second version.
oh and kudos to korg for listening to their customers!
