Aurora AR57: New Analog from the UK
Didn't see that coming! I like the first part of the name... Could be fun, though too bad about the no MIDI part.

Good looking features, but way too expensive
Guess they're going for the established rich musician market anyway.

It's not that expensive IMO. A Voyager only has a few more features & is 2.5 times as expensive (in the UK).
Looks interesting, would like some more demos though.

Yeah, I like the look of this. Price? a bit expensive but it is more boutique than most synths companies but cheaper than a "vintage" with the same features (in most cases)
Could be good sequenced with the A4.

Also they're only shipping within UK. Probably means they don't have huge production facilities, every synth is made "to order".

Perhaps not, but I did read this on their page a few lines down the page:Bitexion wrote:Also they're only shipping within UK. Probably means they don't have huge production facilities, every synth is made "to order".
Q3. I live outside of the UK, can I still obtain one?
A. Currently, it is only exclusive to the UK, but we are looking at shipping to Europe and USA in Spring 2013.

(fixed that for you)
...also, still says 'pre-order' on the site, so even if you came bearing quid, it's still unobtanium, no matter where in the world you are...

Looks kewl. Price isn't cheap but is about the same as the LP Stage II in the UK - although I guess the latter has MIDI and an arpeggiator, which I know some of you fannies are sweet on
.
What's the deal with germanium transistors though? I know they're supposed to offer some sort of 'vintage' sound but I'm a little skeptical.
Also it needs more Union Jacks and Bulldogs and s**t plastered all over it. BRITISH synths for BRITISH people.

I believe it will be shipped in a proper wooden crate wrapped in the Union Jack as well as a stored patch that will play God Save the Queen as soon as you power it on.Dr. Phibes wrote:Looks kewl. ...Just hope it's not as lovely as the Reliant Robin.

You guys...
Anyway, yeah I did sort of mean anything with cv but purely selfishly I said the a4 as it's what I have. I'm getting rid of the mobius.
As far as I know it's just one guy originally. I have an old homemade synth of his he built for a friend of his and it's the most characterful synth I own as far as gnarly, snarly growly bass goes. I only just realised this today when I went to the the site ned posted.

Looks like it only has a single envelope generator. At this price, it's a bad omission IMO. Not interested.

Re: Aurora AR57: New Analog from the UK
I played an earlier a version of this synth a few years ago, not sure they sold many at all. Frankly I wasn't impressed at all. A very thin sound if I remember, although it seemed to be built well.

Really? That's disappointing. I wanted to ask him if there would be any links in the sound between this one I have and this new one as mine is the biggest fattest sound I have. The email contact on the site pissed me off though.

I think it is nice that small business make things like this. Their main source of income is synth repair however.
I would imagine that it will not sell huge amounts.
As for the "Roland" thing... Please, it has been discussed to death over the years.
