Is the JD-800/D-70/JV-80 red epoxy -always- a problem?

I recently picked up a clean JV80 with a broken key for a whopping $25. The keybed doesn't seem to have any problems with the red epoxy yet, save two keys which are sticking together.

I took the broken key that had snapped off and ran it under hot water to see how easily the glue melts. It took scalding hot water before anything started happening, so I can't think of normal circumstances that would cause this to happen. If it left it outside in the sun, or in a hot car something would definitely happen. But this is going to stay in my room...

Has anyone had the glue just melt on them randomly under normal conditions? If it hasn't happened yet am I pretty much in the clear?

I'd have to to say yes, eventually. I don't know for sure about the JV-80, but I had the whole key-bed replaced after that syrupy-glue started melting. I found the 'melting' weird too because it seemed like there wasn't a rhyme or reason for when it was going to turn.

When I bought it, the salesman relayed that the previous owner claimed the one stuck key just needed cleaning.
(   ) So, every week, one or two plates would fall off.
For the first plate...I had the JD above another board and the metal plate under the key fell off and (I kid you not) became a super glue that WOULD NOT PEEL OFF.

It took the plastic coating off the other board- just like taking tape off of a painted wall.
And it burns because it holds that fast after melting, but couldn't keep the damn metal plate in place.

I actually thought the previous owner glued the metal plates under the keys himself to change the synth action.
I have never seen anything like that before on a keyboard. I thought that was a unique and unlucky phenomenon that happened only to me. This is wild that I'm not alone with that experience.

So you are telling me that ROLAND GLUES METAL PLATES UNDER THEIR KEYBOARDS?????
Holy cow, my KORG M3 has some plates under the keys...
And the A6 and RT Accelerator have something that looks like a white domino.... :o

My Fix for the Red Glue Problem

"There are two kinds of JD-800 owners: those who have already experienced the
red glue of death, and those who are going to...
As we all know, the red glue that holds the key weights to the keys did not prove to be stable over a period of decades. When it gets old, and especially if the synth is kept someplace warm, the red glue softens and seeps out, making a God-awful mess.
The best way to fix this problem is to ..."
