only thing i'd be interested to see outta roland is a mini system 100, complete with tiny little add on modules...seq, expander, mixer, speakers (sic). They could make all kinds of money selling the 101 synth but supplementing it with cool new modules. I think it'd be ingenious.. and its always been a sexy design.

however.. if they actually do something it'll be boring, like a 101 or 106 clone. I predict that they will eventually do something and the first one out of the gate will be a MC-* box.

This was my letter to the Roland Facebook editor:

Dear Roland,

I have been saving my pennies in hopes that you will create a new analog poly synth with VCOs, VCFs, VCAs, MIDI and lots of knobs. The Jupiter 4, 6 and 8 were mighty beasts that left footprints so wide and so deep that they still frighten all in their presence. The DNA of the Jupiter is still at Roland and I'm sure it's itching to spawn a new living and breathing real-analog knobby prodigy. But the old analog Jupiters cast shadows that are larger than life. To step from under this shade and into the sun a suggestion would be to leave the hallowed JUPITER name in the halls of history in favor of another celestial traveler: APOLLO. The APOLLO-8 could be a digitally controlled synth with an all analog path, full of LFOs, routings galore, a knob per function, minimum menu diving... all the things we synthesist love!

P.S. I understand that finding old chips in quantity from yester-year is like looking for the Loch Ness monster so why not try something available today?

Till then I'll keep saving!

Respectfully,
A loyal JP-8080 user since 1998

Is that you in the corner? Or is that you in the spot light?

Did you ever find that orange thing?

Why go out of your way to bash the 303? A good indication that you have a bias against something is when you find yourself explaining why other people are interested in it. No one's imposing a 303 purchase on you, if you don't want one, don't buy it, but you have no place telling me what is or is not a useful tool for my own music based on what you want out of a synth, and how you personally work. If the tone of the 303 doesn't have the right pedigree for your taste, so be it; but don't try to turn it around and blame the 303. It's your elitism. The sound and usefulness of the 303 spoke for it when it was monetarily valueless and unknown, just as it does now that It's become an expensive fetish item. I can't think of any better way to assess it then to point that out.

I'm sure the intern who's in charge of Roland's Facebook page will have a great time reading that. I also think that Universal Audio might have a few things to say about whether Roland can use the name Apollo.

Advice:

1. Don't smoke dope before making a video.

2. Clean up that room or at least shift the camera a foot or so to the left.

And why is it so long? I bailed after about a minute and a half.
