I am new to the world of synthesizers and I have been surfing the web recently to purchase my first synth, but I'm not quite sure what to get. I don't want a MIDI controller. I would like to have a synth that can work independently from a computer. I don't really want the best synth out there but something that will last awhile and that is in the lower price range. If you guys have any websites I should look at or anything at all that can help that would be incredible.

My first synth
Hey guys,

Re: My first synth
A little more information would make it a lot easier to suggest something. Vintage or new? Polyphonic or monophonic? Music style? What's your price range?
Re: My first synth
Looking for a polyphonic probably and a newer model would be best but vintage is alright as well. I would probably be making house music like Purity Ring, Beach House or STRFKR. Probably willing to spend under $350

Re: My first synth
Hm. Whilst I agree the Ion is a great synth, I think the quality/build issues (blown main outputs, failed/ing display, jumping/jittery pots etc) would possibly mitigate against it's choice for a first synth. If you can get one with none of these problems, then go for it.
A decent alternative might be a Novation Ultranova, especially 2nd hand. Can cover most bases sonically, can be used as an audio interface & a controller for software synths.
