I got the Arturia Synth collection and I wanna recreate a few patches. Mainly the Tom Sawyer growl on the SEM V (there's no preset that I can find), the Subdivisions Minimoog (I can get close but I feel like I can get it closer) and this one isn't as much of a priority but the main Subdivisions Oberheim.
Oh, and would it be possible to recreate the Camera Eye intro as well?
Thanks.

the tom sawyer bass is a mix of an obx and a Moog Taurus pedal triggered at the same time. Maybe that's why you can't get the timbre right.

I knew it was an OB-X but didn't know it was a Taurus, too. Thanks!Bitexion wrote:the tom sawyer bass is a mix of an obx and a Moog Taurus pedal triggered at the same time. Maybe that's why you can't get the timbre right.
I'm still trying to find the parameters for Minimoog during the solos on Subdivisions. I can get close with a basic two oscillator Saw wave, but it just doesn't sound right. The more I listen to it the more I think it's maybe not a Saw wave. Playing around the the Minimoog V it sounds more like a rectangular wave, or some kind of mix of waves.

Re: Arturia Rush patches
what degree of authenticity are you aiming for?
there's playing a tune well and good, (on whatever instrument)
then there's synthesizing a sound on a modern synth as closely to another, specific old synth (taurus pedal, obx blah blah) as well the modern synth can possibly do.
- and then there's trying to re-create an entire mix and instrument combo to get a specific sound, and to painstaking levels. this is a rabbit-hole, beware.
a sound circuit is a sound circuit is not another sound circuit. they deviate from each other in many ways.
your computer does not have 40-year old hand-wired moog VCAs using fred flinstone -type specs.
and conversely, the moog VCA will never get as dynamic and quiet as a modern PC soundcard; even many of the cheapest ones.
'tis what it is.
there are a plethora of ways of getting some oomph into VST signal chains, but i'm not the guy to know what those would be.

Re: Arturia Rush patches
Go to 3:55 to hear the isolated Moog solo. Honestly sounds like a straight saw wave going through a chorus and reverb. Some glide, and mod wheel vibrato.

Not sure why people think you can only get the Tom Sawyer growl synth on the OBX only, or worse yet, why they think Taurus pedals are part of the sound. here are two examples: one with Taurus pedals and one with only an OBXa used for the sound.

You can get the sounds on other equipment, but having the right stuff really makes it easier.
